The new company I’m at now sent me an email from an email address that was HR@companyName.careers saying I was accepted for the position. They gave me paperwork to fill out and sign to accept the position
I fill out the paperwork and send it back to them and it goes through… then a few days later I go back to the email to say something else and I get this…?
Then today I got a check from the company In the mail to setup my home office, and it’s signed by someone I’ve never met before or heard of…?
What…..

I’m addicted to online blackjack
Yikes! Some days, I just can’t stand my job

I know several older folks from my alma mater PSU who have invested in places in State College and spend their retirement close to school and school activities. PSU also has a program for retired alumni from courses to social activities. This May address the social/ personal care part of your question. There are several articles that may address the financial/ health care part of your question. Good luck
I haven’t considered this before. Thank you, SM1.
Just out of curiosity, what are the reasons?
I happen to be married but won’t ever have kids and I think about this too. For me it’s 1. Taking great care of my health so I can have higher quality years 2. Saving and investing as much as I can so I don’t have to depend on anyone and 3. Being really intentional about cultivating relationships over time so I don’t feel lonely/alone. There are so many ways to be cared for and loved outside the constructs of a traditional family
No overstepping at all, SA1. I appreciate the good vibes and intentions even when I have a different perspective. Tricky formula right there - it’s wild out here 😅

Yeah, I’m starting to think about this too. Long-term care insurance seems super duper sketchy, which is frustrating.
I’m with you. So frustrating.
Same boat here. Little older - F, late 50s, only child. My Father died earlier this year and my Mom is currently independent but is likely to need support within a year. Same story around a traumatic relationship ending. I’ve got enough money to live carefully for quite a few years and am thinking about early retirement. Biggest concerns are healthcare until I can get Medicare and potential isolation given COVID, working remotely and thinking about having to move in to take care of Mom.
Not a lot of ideas to offer, but hope it helps a little to know you are not alone. Hope you find some answers and paths to a happier phase of life.
Thank you for sharing, SM2. I’m sorry you had a traumatic relationship ending. I hope you and your mom can be healthy and happy. And knowing we’re not alone helps a lot, TY.
EY2 - I have the same issue with friends. Gave my life to consulting and my friends got tired of me never being available - either travel or ridiculous hours. Never expected to be this alone at this point in life. Hope you can find your way back to your friends.
I hope the same for you too. The sacrifices we make....

My plan is to off myself once things go downhill steep. Living too long is just cruel
You can, but it’s pretty narrowly limited to people with a terminal diagnosis of six months left. Otherwise, you have to take it into your own hands. A number of states have passed laws recently after the Brittany Maynard case got so much attention: https://deathwithdignity.org/news/2019/11/brittany-maynards-legacy-five-years-on/
I am 42 and single. This is a huge thing on my mind right now. I don’t have siblings and will likely need to care for my parents as they age. I feel like my window to have the traditional life has closed and will need to make plans for my own later years. I know that things will change in the coming decades but I’m spending too much time thinking about it while this pandemic drags on and on. I’d love to have a life companion / partner but I don’t know about sharing all finances or having kids.
Just wanted to let you know you’re not alone in your thoughts / concerns

No siblings here either and this has been on my mind a lot lately.
35 F who is thinking the same.... I hope and pray that I'll have friends around when the time comes.... only sad part is I alienated many of my close friends chasing this paper... ughhh life is weird.
SM2 - I ended up at a smaller firm that did not have the full travel model for most projects. Feel free to DM if you want, I can share more details

No to the playboy mansion? That was my back up plan😂

Just figured it'd be cool to go out with a bang😏

OP, I don't have any tips but will be rooting for you and secretly hoping you eventually meet someone you mesh well with (once you've healed enough from the trauma of your divorce) so you never have to be alone.
Thanks, A1.

I’ve thought a lot about this too. Millennials are more frequently single and/or childless than any other generation. I imagine elder care will have to adjust to deal with this change because a lot of us are going to be facing this.
I’m going with the assumption that nothing will change and I’m on my own to figure things out…. Sigh 😔

I’m 36 F and likely same boat. I feel you.
Sending my best vibes your way PS1 as we try to figure things out

Honestly I don’t want to be a burden on my kids when I’m old. My plan is to get a bunch of friends together, buy houses in a lower cost area together (Florida), hire help that supports us all, and then spend my days playing bingo. And my kids come when they want to see me. No pressure or expectations. I hope I can actually pull this off.
Hope this idea works out! Sounds like a great plan.

Build a cabin off the grid. Solar, some gardens, and (if you don't know how to already) learn to hunt. Get it all paid off and you won't need much residual income to relax and have a great relaxing life.
I like this, C1. Tks!

Why do you think you will be single forever? Plenty of people find their partner late…
It’s by choice. I’ve had some opportunities to turn things into a relationship. I’ve torpedoed every single one of them.
