Hi! I am asking for a friend in tax - “I’ve been in the AWM tax practice for 7 years (4.5 yrs at pwc and 2.5 at private) and am looking to switch to EY’s national tax team (passthrough group). How do they conduct an interview and how technical can it be? Also any general thoughts/ experiences on boomeranging back to big 4 after private? EY PwC

There are things you can do to work through this of you want. Understanding what happened and why will help. Here are some questions for you and her to think about and discuss if you haven’t already:
- what was going on in your lives at the time that created the environment where she developed this intimate emotional relationship with the other guy instead of turning to you?
- was she missing something in her life or your relationship that she sought something else out?
- when confronted, she chose to end the relationship with the other guy and stay with you, why?
- have things changed in your relationship since then such that it is stronger now and not as at risk to straying? That is, is she getting what she needs from it? Is she satisfied and happy?
These types of relationships happen for a reason. The fact that she chose you and ended it with the other guy means a lot. She wants to be with you. The way you get through this is to make sure you both are doing the work every day to sustain the relationship by being loving, respectful, attentive, etc.

Really agree with all the above!! When a person in a relationship turns to someone else it’s often not because this new person is so special, but because they are looking for some kind of support or they are looking to fill an emotional gap. So while it’s important to forgive and move on (if you chose to stay together), it’s also important to remember what led to this emotional cheating.

“Emotionally cheated”…? 🙄
Leader 1 are you a cuckhold? Serious question
Dump her, once a cheater always a cheater. the minute you piss her off she will go back to doing that . Also not worth having a relationship where you are always in doubts.

My husband emotionally cheated a few years ago, and we did multiple rounds of couple counseling. At the beginning, all I focused on was why it happened and how it happened. While knowing the causes helped ‘closing out the chapter’ but didn’t help me completely get over it, if that makes sense. I still think about it from time to time, and depending on my emotional stage at the moment, it could destroy me all over again. What has really helped me is the realization that everything I am feeling is completely fine and acceptable. I should not feel bad for remembering his wrongdoing. It doesn’t mean I should punish him, but it does mean we should work together and enforce boundaries as a couple. I have also learned to steer the energy to better myself. Another critical moment was when I realized that I would be perfectly fine to break up with him if he cheats again. I did individual counseling as well, learning to accept my emotion and addressing my own insecurities have helped a lot.

She broke trust, it takes time to repair.

SE get rid of him.
If he told her he loved her and she continued the friendship and emotional investment, I'd be upset too.
Talk her through your feelings and try to forgive her if she means that much to you.

Respect yourself and leave. I actually think Emotionally cheating is worse than physical.
I don’t believe in emotional monogamy.
I think you need to have a candid conversation with her about what is missing from the relationship with YOU that resulted in her filling in need from someone else. It sounds like victim blaming, but that will be the most insightful conversation and honestly it’ll help you almost immediately decide if you want to dump her or not.
Was it purely emotional and no sexting etc?
I can’t say for sure if there was no sexting, but will give the benefit of the doubt and say sexting never happened
How did she cheat emotionally years ago? Has she done anything since then? It may be a legit reason to break things off, or you could be making something about nothing. I'm just curious.

Go to therapy. A lot of traditional practitioners also have online options now bc of the pandemic. It’s extremely convenient.
