Starting my own practice has been an incredibly challenging journey. While clinical education equips us with the skills to care for patients, it often overlooks the business side of running a practice. Navigating these uncharted waters has been both a steep learning curve and a rewarding challenge.

For the current or future practice owners in the chat, how have you overcome the challenges of juggling patient acquisition, caring for patients, and growing your practice all at the same time?

I’ve done this before for a new Doctor and yes it was brutal in the first few months , I would suggest you find at least one experienced staff member that’s been through it …because early mistakes can be extremely costly.
Make sure you get crudentialed properly with all the major insurance companies.
And choose wisely on your EMR system.
The patients will come as long as your staff is professional and actually answer the phone. I know that sounds strange but believe me patients appreciate excellent customer service.
I could go on for days on that one .
I hope this helps …. Congratulations and best of luck.

I had a colleague that went to start their own practice and kept in touch with them during it. Was very interesting to me just being on the outside and looking in to their experience. Definitely agree that the business side is a whole different ball game and can be overwhelming but see a ton of success stories from people building their own brand!

We had an NP leave to open up her own business. I’ve seen it evolve from a mobile phlebotomy and primary care model (mostly in home and telehealth) to now having her own office to have patients come in. She appears to be happy but I know she’s had moments where she was scared she wasn’t going to make it.

So I have worked with an owner to develop more of the HR side. I cannot stress enough mapping out what your dream is and then thinking of the various steps. I wrote and continue to write the operations manual and trainings. There are a lot of options for building a practice. So first what do you want then to be? How large, what services do you want to offer, staff you will need outside of other clinicians. From there you can think about the regulations for your area and how they "fit" and dictate what can be done.

Just out of curiosity, have you ever started a new job and thought what the hell am I getting myself into?!?
If it was the wrong fit how long did you grin and bear it? 6 months / 1 year / longer?
Did it get better with time or worse? (For instance just a case of lack of know-how)
If you left did you find securing a new job difficult due to only being there for so little time?

Does anyone know the average salary for a senior consultant in finance with 5 years work experience in the LA area?

What should I do in a scenario where I was hired (12+ years) with far less salary than(~20% less) than other members (4+ experience) in team and asked to take 80% of team's responsibilities. The hiring manager low balled me sensing that I am in dire need of that job and now I am stuck for 2 years now. The company is a big shot but I am literally getting paid less than what I used to make 10 years ago. Should I try to move within or look outside?
