🤣. Fortunately, my building is three floors; there is an elevator, but I get my exercise by walking up and down the stairs with my students. (The media center, cafeteria, auditorium, gymnasiums, and all elective classes are on the first floor; my classroom is now on the second floor🥵.). I also have never sat at my desk because I find that proximity and wandering are powerful behavior modification tools. If I need to sit to work with a student, I use a student desk. Summers here are too hot and humid for outdoor action, so I exercise by cleaning and completing all of those household tasks I didn’t get to during the school year. There’s a track and a weight room on campus as well.
If your home TV can get YouTube, you can watch yoga videos and stretch out those muscles 🤭
Get a standing desk! It’s a misconception to think that you need to sit at your desk. Sitting is very hard on your body. You’re not the only one that needs to stretch and move about. Your students do as well. You should take mini breaks with your students to breathe and stretch. I am 60 years old and I am as fit as I was when I was 20.
I owned 2 personal training franchises before becoming a teacher, so staying fit has been a priority for me, especially since I transitioned to teaching in my 40s. Nowadays, I take my own medicine, and I joined a fitness training class based on weightlifting. I’m 55, and it’s enough to keep me motivated since I like seeing if I can still hang with the younger members. Strength training really is the closest thing to a fountain of youth. I still enjoy skiing, bike riding, and hiking, but I leave the sprinting and dunking to my students! But when they ask to shake my hand, I show them what old man strength is!

I have an elliptical angled in front of the TV in the living room so it’s visible when I sit down in the couch! I found it for $75 on Nextdoor with delivery! Best purchase ever! I try to get on it at least 30 min a day! I also go to the gym occasionally for some weight training. I do lounges and squats using our bed post shortly before bedtime. 🤣 Random acts of exercise. I’m 44 and everything still hurts at times. 🤷🏻♀️
