Does anyone have advice on how to deal with a difficult/mean boss?
I'm finally in a position that I enjoy, but my boss makes me feel terrible about myself. They are a workaholic and have no boundaries. They've said countless inappropriate things to me about my hiring process and talk negatively about other co-workers often. My friends and family call my boss a bully. I don't know what's feasible in terms of switching teams and I'm at the point where i want to leave the company.

I’m pretty new to marketing/advertising. Question: are there any marketing/ advertising jobs that do not involve sales? I really like this field but hate the sales aspect. If so what position titles should I look out for? Any help would be appreciated.

I keep seeing so many folks talk about how they’re back in-office, but I’m still fully remote with full flexibility to WFH. I’m looking to possibly get a new job in the next few months - should I mention to interviewers/recruiters that I enjoy working from home and need that as a requirement if I’m to accept a new position elsewhere? I’m open to travel to on-site for client workshops or new business pitches, but I want to be WFH besides that.

Has anyone worked at Arnold (owned by Havas Health.) I’m considering a Supervisor position there so would love to hear any input!

I’m currently interviewing for a role I no longer want. However, I know someone who would fit this role perfectly and I want to recommend them. The thing is this person had interviewed with this company before, got pretty far in and got ghosted. Would it be inappropriate to recommend them?

What’s the intent behind listing the brands you’ve worked on in the ‘job description’ section of your position on LinkedIn? I noticed some people do it and others don’t. Genuinely curious if there’s some benefit to it, as I’ve done work on accounts with name recognition, but nothing groundbreaking was made.

Where are all the agencies sponsoring visas for mid-level creatives?

I’m feeling trapped, I know I’m worth more than my junior salary and position, but most of my interviews stop at the visa sponsor point. Asking for a friend!

Have you ever jumped at an opportunity to work at a different agency and had it be a total flop? How quickly did you realize it was a mistake and how did you handle it? Currently feeling like I made a huge mistake for accepting a position at a promising agency, and after 3 weeks it has become clear this job was a lemon. So many issues from process to chain of command, making day to day tasks painful.

I’m growing weary of the empty cycle of the agency model. It really just is a talent agency to put bodies on a project. No outcomes or progress. Just a higher revenue target.

Does this mean I should be looking to make my exit from the agency world?

Hey y’all! I’ve received two good job offers from completely different agencies. One is a management level position at a big six, and the other is an associate level at a smaller e-commerce agency. Things that matter the most to me are opportunities for growth and company culture. The pay is better at the big six, but I’m afraid that I will be sacrificing culture for growth. The smaller agency has longer growth paths and less room for vertical growth but good culture. What would you do?

Any in-house creative teams hiring for an art direction ACD role that isn’t heavily focused on product or UX design? 😀

Considering an ELT role at a small/mid-size agency. Heavy project work (big names, good reputation).

They keep a lean staff & historically have done layoffs in favor of freelance when things are tight. But layoffs have usually been more junior, not ELT level.

If conversations continue, I’d like to discuss a severance agreement in my contract just to save my ass. Has anyone navigated that? What are realistic terms?

If a recession hits, I don’t wanna be screwed due to taking a big leap.

For ADs who jumped client side, is work life balance really better for this role specifically? I hear all these dreamy stories of how much better it is but I still keep seeing that stupid bullet point in those roles, “thrives under pressure” “works well in fast paced environments” That doesn’t sound better. That’s what I have to do now. Wanting to make the jump but if it’s just more of the same for art directors not sure if that’s worth the shift. Any AD input would be great 🙏❤️

Negotiations went well, so salary and signing offer are good atm, but any thoughts in the community about their work culture and management? We have high turnover (& my boss quit) due to many business/leadership issues. There’s been fires every day. I now wear many hats despite pushing back-make hiring decisions/interview, train, onboard, address issues, do strategy work, client meetings, manage new direct reports, manage extra work, etc. I can’t do my job well.

Any solutions I offer to leadership fall flat due to low budget & fires being priority 😞

About a year ago I interviewed for a position client side that I didn’t get. As part of the interview process I had to give a presentation. In that presentation I proposed a specific idea that I just saw get launched in the world today. What if they took my idea? What do I do? Even if I could prove it, do I have any rights to the idea I proposed?

What do you say to someone who’s work and experience is being undervalued in their current position, but the long term benefits of the current job outweigh all other options?

I interviewed for a role where I told them my expected salary range was $50-60k, and the recruiter told me the base salary was $60k. I just got to the offer stage, and they are offering me $60k, can I negotiate the salary for more since I know this is their base salary rate, even though the expected salary range I gave was below? Or would I seem ungrateful since they are technically meeting the high end of my desired salary range that I gave?

does anyone have any tips on negotiating salary? I have been in this role for 13 months and it’s my first one out of college. I would definitely like to increase my salary due to inflation/upcoming bills.

Has anybody made a switch from a specialized role into a recruiting position focused on hiring others with a similar skill set? Any tips or perspectives on making a pivot like this would be greatly appreciated!

My job has busy and slow periods, it's just the nature of my role. When it's busy, I'm easily working 55-60hr weeks. When it's slow, I work 35-40 maybe even less. It definitely evens out in my timesheets. I feel like I give 110% when it's busy, and to prevent burnout I haven't been taking on extra work when it's slow. However my manager believes I should always be proactive and look for work when it's slow. Managers, what's your take on this? Am I in the wrong here?

Will agencies ever go above budget for a junior role?

I was laid off February 2020 right before the pandemic hit. Since then, I have lost count of the amount of resumes I’ve sent out and interviews I’ve had, only to be passed over or never contacted. Lately, the rejections have been “we decided we actually don’t need this position”; “someone else decided on a different candidate so we’re no longer moving ahead with you”. I’m at the end of my rope and almost out of savings. Is anyone actually hiring admins anymore in Chicago? Thanks, all.
