What do companies like Apple, Nike, etc, do for background checks before hiring?

To all my peers enduring countless interviews for a seemingly evasive full-time role: someone else recently had to be interviewed by 95 senators before getting her dream gig.

It's always been my dream to work in advertising as a copywriter. Jr Copywriter opportunities have come my way but none of them were what I was looking for. Last week, after months of studying award books, portfolio reviews with CDs, and building my book, I finally interviewed for the exact role I had been working so hard to get. Today, I can officially announce that I will continue looking for my dream job because I didn't get it. I'll have it one day, just not today.

I’m looking to relocate to NYC & specifically looking for senior media planner/buyer (or similar) role with 4-5 years of experience. What is an appropriate salary range to expect or ask for?

Currently in paid search but am very interested in learning about programmatic. Has anyone made the switch? How would you compare working in SEM vs programmatic?
Any suggestions on how I can jumpstart the learning process to help get a programmatic role would be appreciated!

Suggestions on moving from Media Planning to Account Manager role? Is it interesting or planning is more creative?

How have you overcome working with a micromanager? I struggle in my current position by reporting into someone who manages everybody wayyyyy too much, and it’s too the point where it makes me hate the job.

I love the company, I love the client, I just struggle with my manager. I don’t know who to talk about it.

A friend is new to a Head of New Biz role, but is unsure what type of commission or new biz revenue bonus structures to push for. Anyone been in this role and have an understanding of what a normal incentive structure is?

Last week I interviewed someone for an art director position in my team. He works at my former agency, but we haven’t met before. So, he helped (after I left) with a very small part of a project I created there 2 years ago. That project got awards. He not only put it on his portfolio: he presented to me, without knowing I am the one who created the idea, as if it was his idea.

I've been a Copy Manager at an in-house agency for a while. Started in agency world in copywriting but went in house yrs ago due to burn out. I recently transferred offices for my small size agency - I’ve been with my company 6 years and promoted 5 times, I’m used to hustling, working hard and getting ahead and it has served me well. My latest role has landed me in an office with a completely different culture and mentality, and it seems complacency is rewarded. People who do the bare minimum (or less) get rewarded with raises and promotions. It’s so strange and I really am caught off guard. Has anyone experienced this? I’m at a loss

What’s the most tactful way to not mention your new agency/role when resigning? I’d just like to quietly leave and not make a big deal of it or have anyone know where I’m going before I’m gone.

Been in media planning for almost a year now after graduating with an advertising major. I always wanted to be in creative strategy and felt like my previous work and internships showed I had the chops for it. Never landed a role though. I really dislike media planning, any advice on finding a strategy role?

My friend has been put in a position where all the mistakes of her really green (doesn’t know how to solve basic problems) and incompetent (client still finds mistakes in things that was told was thoroughly checked) team that was given to her fell only on her shoulders after she’s voiced concern numerous times. She’s always been valued elsewhere but now her manager is giving her an ultimatum to quit so she won’t qualify for unemployment. What should she do?

How many Planner-Associate level folks feel as if they’ve had no training or understanding of job role/function in media process? Would love to hear about your experience.

While I have been in my current role for 6ish months I feel as though I need to ask for a raise. My team has become smaller and I have taken on roles in other departments because of the current high attrition rate. Wondering how advertising agencies are run in the UK. I’m looking at applying for an account management role with about 5 YOE.

I am currently a freelancer hired for global position account management and I feel so alienated by the entire employee team. Plus you add the fact that I am in a different country and I am only virtual. Also this position should have proper integration with the entire team and I honestly think it is a mistake that they are using a freelancer instead of just hiring a fulltime person.

I want to expand my knowledge on the production process and hone in my terminology and understanding. What to look for in a DP, understanding camera lensing and other information. I have production experience, but growing into my role as an ACD im at the point where nodding along isn't cutting it - i want to be able to engage more. Any resources or tips?

Is there anyone in the client finance/finance space of advertising on here? I’m at a junior level position and have not seen much growth in anyone in my time here. I figured it was time to look around given the apparent market. Is the timeline for growth any different in the finance departments? Any advice in terms of specific agencies or junior level salary expectations?

I started my career at a large well-respected agency and I feel like they failed me. No awards, decent work, but nothing that any of the big agencies are interested in. I left during the pandemic bc it started to get toxic. Now I freelance and I’m trying my hardest to get back into a good agency but no one will talk to me. I just re-did my book. Is anyone hiring an AD (senior) and want to take a look at my work? I truly just want the chance to make some cool stuff.

Should I speak up and tell someone that our pay is way below competitive? People aren’t telling HR they’re leaving because of salary in exit interviews, but it’s the main reason.

I'm drowning in my current role and I currently have 2 roles I'm interviewing for at a big tech company. 1 is permanent and the other is a contract through an staffing agency and I was recently offered the contract role. The roles are on different teams and the leaders sit in different cities. Since it's the same company is it possible to accept the contract role for now while still going through the interview process for the permanent role? I want to leave my current job either way....

When should you stop interviewing? I just accepted a copywriter position for one agency (not main office) a week ago but today I got an email for an interview with another agency. Do I see what this other agency offers or stay loyal to my original offer?
