I’m soooo confused!

Hello all. Recently left an agency position to go back to freelance. Have an idea for a promotional thing to agencies as an experienced freelance copywriter, an ad-industry-specific promo I want to do and need a reality check. When you present concepts (i.e. ad concepts, websites, etc.,) do you use fake body copy? If so, what are the names you call that fake copy? I’ll be glad to share it, but because it would look like some kind of a stealth pitch I’ll wait. Thank y’all.

Anyone done freelance in an account management role? Are they hard to come by? I know they’re not as common. I’ve been at my agency a long time and burnt out (I know, get in line). I’d like to try a more flexible, less emotionally invested in my job kind of life. Account person for hire, can get sh*t done and good at it. First take a break, then do short stints, filling in for people on mat leave that kind thing. Don’t have anyone but me to worry about.

Planning to move to Melbourne soon. Wondering what is the average salary for a senior copywriter or associated CD role? Would it differ between a big agency like Clemenger and a smaller one like The Monkeys? Am slightly worried the 40% taxes will take a big munch of my salary, but don’t want to ask for something ridiculously high either! Thanks :)

I'm five months into a new role at a new company and...I've never seen any of the account team or strategy team's faces. Obviously not trying to force anyone to turn on their camera but...come on!!!!

Can you provide advice to succeed/survive on the corporate client side?

Moved away from agencies to corporate and it is SOUL SUCKING. Between the lack of flexibility (both personally and day to day), sterile environment, and millions of meetings a day I am going insane.

The pay and benefits are dramatically better in this corporate role, but I won’t lie I am missing the freedom of agencies so much right now.

Jr creatives are often (and rightly so) advised to disclose their role on projects they put in their book. Meanwhile, CDs put stuff on their book that other teams concepted, designed, produced without giving proper credit.

I was just low key questioned by a coworker what my role was on a project that I did everything myself because they found it on my former CD book.

I’m a pharma copywriter looking to become a non-pharma copywriter. I graduated May 2020 so this is my first full-time copywriting job (although I had internship/freelance experience before this). My job title is “copywriter” even though I’m more junior. Would I have an easier time breaking out if I listed this position as a Junior role on my resume, or should I call it like it is?

Would you take a significantly more junior position if it meant getting your foot in the door at a dream brand-side or tech company? 🤔

I am coming up on my third year in the industry. The average salary for designers in my city is $45,000, but I also have experience in Art Direction. What is a reasonable salary for taking on a role within one of the 4 holding companies?

I referred a friend for the same position as me. Prior to them applying, I shared my salary with them (big mistake) and now they’ve asked for the same salary after the initial offer. The problem is that I have more experience them in certain areas and I have a broader skill set. I’m starting to regret referring them, as I can tell this is going to be one of the many instances where they try to compete with me.

Starting a new contract role in NYC and it’s a phenomenal opportunity but they have a hybrid method for going into the office. Which is fine l, would prefer to only have to go in two days a week. Evidently they are going to push for going in full time and I am trying to figure out how to work out a deal where I can still work from home and go on only a couple times a week. Any suggestions?

Junior here. Just graduated college and not too happy with my portfolio pieces. I know overall my portfolio needs so much work and it makes me upset that I’m in this position. I see so many fresh out of college from the same school i went to landing jr positions with amazing books. How? I feel like I didn’t really gain ad experience until my senior year of college. Looking to make the jump from Account Exec to Senior Account Exec. Moving from Chicago to Milwaukee. Interviewing for an agency role. Long-term goal is in-house in 2-3 years. Currently making $55k. What’s a realistic increase? Should I ask between $62-68k? I’ve been told by an Account Director that some agencies are doing sign-on bonuses, too and should even ask higher. Your thoughts? BG info: 5 years experience in advertising and PR mix with background in digital marketing. Masters degree, too.

When you’re expecting a promotion at your current agency, do you anticipate the pay bump based on where you are (x% increase), or based on the average for that role? If the average is more than 20% higher, how do you handle the conversation? (Not looking to leave.)

Is it worth it to accept a new job if the salary is only $5K more than you’re currently making? I recently accepted a role at a smaller company and now I’m having second thoughts. I was planning on giving notice on Friday but now I’m not sure. How to handle burnout quickly?

I start a new job on Monday and am taking the week off in between, but I am so burnt out from my last job that the thought of working at all makes me want to cry. I have no motivation or excitement to start my new position because of this and I’m afraid it will somehow impact my attitude and performance… any advice over getting un-burnt-out in less than a week?

How conscious are you all about the “brand” name of the agency you go to? Talked to an agency with a boring/not known for cool stuff name on paper…but the position itself sounds great. Maybe it’s silly, but I’ve been pretty careful about the names on my resume up until now.
