I’m in a starting position at a great agency as client services, but want to be an art director.

While I work on my portfolio, are there things I can do at work to help me get closer to moving into a creative position?

Working a stagnant but comfy brand side job. Pay is fine and it includes a yearly bonus and cost of living increase.

Got an offer from Publicis Health for a higher role with higher base, but debating whether I should take it. No bonus or COL increase, but maybe a much needed chaange. Anyone have any experience with this agency?

I have an interview tomorrow (maybe the final one?) with 3 people I’d be working with — other writers and a designer. It’s for an in-house role. Any thoughts on questions I should ask?

Got told today I was suppose to learn my role in 90 days ( 3 months) but was told I would be learning it in 3months - 1 year. Is this the norm for entry level?

How does your agency structure its Engagement/Activation/Digital Strategy dept, as far as titles/roles go? If doesn't seem as defined as other depts and, from what I can tell, it also isn't uniform across agencies. For example, in our Copy dept, the succession is:

1. Jr Copywriter
2. Copywriter
3. Sr Copywriter
4. Copy Supervisor
5. Group Copy Sup
6. VP, Group Copy Sup
7. VP, ACD
8. SVP, ACD
9. SVP, CD
10. SVP, ECD

As a Sr Digital Strategist, what's the next logical role for me?

Anyone ever go through 6+ grueling hours of amazing, positive interviews only to be told that you don’t have enough of one very specific type of experience that is clearly listed in your resume and could have been filtered out before proceeding? Before today me neither. I’m still in a bit of shock over the whole thing. The hiring manager said I’d be perfect and all the other interviews were just a formality. Apparently not!

Anyone else have a personal and/or work space that’s just absolute chaos? I haven’t managed to keep my bedroom/office clean for more than 1 day since COVID (granted it was also messy in the before times). Every surface is covered in laundry / dishes / papers / tech / cosmetics.

God forbid my webcam ever shifted from it’s usual position and revealed my quarters to my coworkers (or clients!)

Pls tell me I’m not alone in being a fairly well-adjusted adult with the bedroom of a teenager :|

Is it acceptable to drop out of a job interview process because of how long it's been taking? I understand that interviewing can take a while but it's a role that I'm not 100% invested in and the dragged out process has turned me off from it even further. There's 3-4 rounds left. If I tell the recruiter im no longer interested, do I even mention the long process as the reason?

My adland exit: I worked in new biz for 8+ years and was burning out. For a while I’d been feeling like a cog in the capitalism wheel and needed a higher purpose than pitch decks!

I wanted to work in sustainability to tackle the climate crisis and through a series of moves (AMA 👍), I’m now leading global marketing for an NGO called Forest Stewardship Council. A huge relief.

Bummed out I spoke too much about my passion for film/tv spots in my JR CW position interview. I don’t think the CD thinks I’m a good fit for the role now bc the agency works primarily on social.

Im about 5 months into a new role and my team’s VP, Director, and manager (my former boss) all left within a span of 6 weeks. Should I tough it out and revel in the opportunity or start looking?

I absolutely love the sheer pettiness of recruiters. When they ignore/ghost us and we say something about it then we’re being unreasonable but when they reach out for a role with some forced overly nice message and I politely tell them I’m not interested then they immediately turn sour and all the niceties are immediately out the window. Yea ok. Suck it

Is it weird that I like applying to jobs? I just started a new role and I miss the chase (not applying now since it would be a waste/disrespectful of the hiring teams time) but I miss the rush of getting emails from recruiters and talking to other folks.

About to start a new job but have a pre-planned 2.5 week vacation for end on September. Feeling a bit uneasy about taking such a long break so early into a new position.... will they think I’m lazy and immediately get a red flag? I know it’s long but I haven’t taken vaca all year!

So many agencies and brands on PST are hiring remote. But not so much for CST/EST (Chi/Atl/Nyc). Anyone else having a similar experience? 🌇🏙

How early is too early to start interviewing at new places?

Totally happy with my current gig, but just got a referral at a place that would be cool to talk to too.

I’m interviewing for a new job this week, but I’ve only been in my current role for a little over 6 months. How would you go about answering the question “why are you looking to leave?” Hopefully since I’ve landed these interviews this won’t be a huge dealbreaker?

I’m turning down a higher role with higher pay (12% higher) solely because the HR team has been extremely unhelpful throughout the decision making process. From not getting responses for weeks, to consistently receiving “I don’t know, let me follow up” then not receiving follow ups, and everything in between. All of the interviews leading up to the offer was great, but then red flags started popping up making me feel very uneasy joining this company. Have you ever denied an offer because of HR??

Can anyone recommend a wireless drawing tablet? I’m not a designer but picking up that role in my freelance gig and my track pad is starting to really cramp my hand. Thanks!

Is there a list of agencies hiring remote?

Is any nonhealth place in Philly besides 160 over 90/Endeavor hiring?

I don't know why this is the case and maybe it's just my agency but it seems like the people who are most eager to send out "internal trend email digests" be it cultural trends, social media changes, creative inspiration or whatever always seem to be people who are grossly failing in the primary role they were hired for.

How many rounds of interviews are normal for a small, independent agency? I’m in the process of interviewing for an associate account executive (entry level) position if that helps! I’ve had a phone screen and one virtual interview with the co-founders so far.

First corporate role and I’m beginning to very much dislike my job and finding it hard to concentrate. Is it a bad idea to quit and focus on what’s important to me in life atm? I love writing and photography so I would go heads down on producing that work instead. I’m also in a strong position to climb the corporate ladder otherwise and don’t want to “throw it all away”.

Cold calling agencies. Is it weird to google/LinkedIn a specific person (HOP, say) and dial by name, directly call them? Agencies are massive and receptionists (if there is one) won’t direct you to a role. They want a name. For freelancers trying to network, this seems to be the only way in if you have no contacts there. Any thoughts or advice appreciated.

My agency just posted a job that I’m very interested in. However, (sorry don’t mean to boast) but I’m an essential player in my current team right now. How do I bring up that I want to apply for this position? Who do I talk to? (My boss isn’t in the team of the position I want to apply for)

Ugh how is it OK for interviewers to be late but if it's the other way around we're automatically seen as unprofessional and not a great fit anymore for the role 😑

How diverse are advertising/portfolio/design schools? The lack of diversity there will make really hard to fix diversity in our industry. Maybe agencies could also sponsor more tuitions or something to make it more inclusive. I know I’m being naive but I’m sick of the fake caring about diversity by hiring 2 POC or creating fake useless roles just to balance the photo slide on decks.
