CEO just announced through a message in our general Slack channel that someone was just laid off today because “his implication wasn’t sufficient and his results unsatisfactory.”

We’re a 30ish employees tech startup and this has never happened before, how would you feel reading this message out of the blue?

I find myself at the verge of losing it. I have a live in boyfriend who has been unemployed for a year and a half. I have a stressful job so I slack off on cleaning on the weekdays but do try my best to clean and tidy up on the weekends. He constantly complains about the apt being dirty but doesn’t lift a finger to help even though he watches TV 3-4 hours a day. He claims he cleans up after himself and shouldn’t have to clean my messes. He also doesn’t cook and waits for me to make dinner.

So we use Slack at work and I happened to come across an external channel where one of the departments is hiring a new senior management role with an external recruiting firm and I can see EVERYTHING including CVs, package offers (I am severely underpaid in comparison), contracts...

I'm considering a new dept policy: no more using Slack to share or review deliverables.

Ideal: discuss live on a call.

Acceptable: use a platform like Dropbox or Box where markup on the document is possible and comments are attached directly to the work instead of floating aimlessly in a sea of chat msgs.

If you worked here, would you love or hate this approach?

They now want me to do another 45 minute interview. I don't know if it's just me but this seems very excessive and I don't understand why they have so many interviews just for an internship.

We’re into our Junior year of covid and remote work, and I still hate giving virtual presentations. I’d rather fly 6 hours for a 30 minute meeting and have a flight delay than give another Zoom/Teams PowerPoint.

If I do a zoom call with my therapist on my work laptop, technically can my employer see/record/transcribe my therapy session?

Hi, Is it imapctful to have your picture on Microsoft Teams ?

I’ve been trying to look into anxiety group therapy or support groups in the Northern NJ/NYC area, but searching hasn’t come up with anything except for all female support groups. Are there any guys (or girls) on here that would be interested in starting one together? Maybe meet once a week on Zoom after work hours? Maybe we could find a therapist or a psych graduate student looking for extra cash that we could pool some money together for to lead discussions and whatnot? Just spitballing here.

I am a new APMM, and the youngest at my company (25<). I am doing a fair amount of training involving reporting on our organic KPI’s, and producing lead generating content; however, I want to take some serious contd. education/certifications to level up my skills past what I am doing to position myself as a product leader in the workforce. My goal is to be a key figure in the product industry as this is what I geared my degree towards! I am a PMA slack member but not a paid one. Any suggestions?

How formal does everyone keep internal emails? I would like to drop all of the formalities (similar to what you see in quick messaging systems like Slack or Skype). There is a general sense of formality in most of the emails exchanged, but I'm fine with trying to break this trend if everyone else is doing it.

(1) what modalities do your firms use for consultations (in person, Zoom, Teams, phone, etc.)
