About 10 years ago I was gifted a trust from a wealthy aunt. With about $350k invested, it is currently managed by Morgan Stanley who skims about one percent in annual fees. It has been suggested to me to carry it over to Vanguard to avoid these fees. Looking for any insight. I am pretty financially illiterate but trying to get smart. Anything else I need to look into to ensure the trust is well managed?

Depending on the terms of the trust, you may not be able to move it. Are you the sole trustee and the sole beneficiary? You may be able to simply tell Morgan Stanley that you no longer want them managing the trust and just leave the trust along where it is.

Yes and yes to your two questions. Appreciate the feedback.

Who administers your company’s 401(k)? They usually offer free advisory services to people participating in an employer sponsored retirement plan, and so if you move your account to that brokerage, they could advise you on that account as well.

If that is not possible, I would still move the account to somewhere like Fidelity or Vanguard and seek a financial planner that charges an hourly rate.

This is, of course if you are allowed to move the money per the trust agreement…

Thanks! Vanguard manages my company’s 401(k) so this would make sense.

Any suggestions how to handle the credit card debt without racking up tons of ongoing card interest?

Need advice. Have some credit card debt that I’ve been working to pay off. Have made progress but want to lower it quickly. We have dual income, with a house (~$300k in equity), 1 kid and 1 on the way. I’ve looked into debt consolidation via HELOC but also have ~$80k in vested equity in my company that I haven’t touched. Get equity refreshes every year. Would it be smarter to cash out $15k-$20k of that to pay debt vs. a HELOC at ~5% given that will still require mthly payments

We have done the math and I know we can afford much more but he doesn’t want to buy more than a 400K home. I’m almost positive we can afford 500K and be more than ok. But then he starts to talk about how much kids cost and how we will be house poor and we won’t be able to afford kids. 🤔 Am I insane??

Seeking feedback on GAP insurance. I had a family member who purchased a car in June or July. They were in an accident last week and it sounds like the car will be declared a total loss. Never dealt with this before, so wanted to ask if anyone has ever had an instance where the insurance didn't cover the outstanding balance of the loan and the insured then owed money? Car was $35k, $7k down, finance $28k. Gap insurance is through lender, not auto insurer.

Looking to get an Alfa Romeo Giulia Ti sometime this year. Brand new the MSRP is about 45K and despite the reputation of the old Alfa Romeo’s from the 90’s these seem to be night and day more reliable. Would you recommend buying new, leasing new, or buying used? If I bought used it would be anywhere from 2019-2021
