Will Vanguard sell my underlying holdings to loan me the money and then buy them back at the market price when I put the money back? Should I be worried about increase in cost basis or not worry about it.

I have a client who needs a 401k, or a solo retirement account w loan options. When I was at UBS/Ameriprise, it was no issue but now it seems tougher to find a firm that does solo 401k as a RIA's.

Closing on my first home. Advice for anyone with student loans in administrative forbearance per the Cares act: once your offer is accepted have you student loan servicer put your account back in repayment status.

Accounts in forbearance, even administrative forbearance, are calculated at a higher monthly payment by the underwriter.

My fictitious debt to income ratio was too high for them to approve me, and it took seven days for my loan to be officially back in repayment. So just a heads up.

$530k HHI, $250k cash on hand, $1.2M investments/retirement. Plan to buy $800-900k house as our first home, but thinking of the best approach given rates today. My thinking is that we (i) put $200k+ down and get a 5/1 ARM. (ii) put everything we save moving forward toward paying down the principal (after maximizing retirement accounts). Have an acquaintance who is a single mom; she purchased a used car 3 mos ago. Six wks later her 17yo wrecked it, air bags deployed, and estimates have ranged between $10-$18k in needed repairs while $21k is still owed. Acquaintance was switching insurance policies and flubbed the coverage dates and there were a few days where the vehicle was uninsured. No GAP insurance. I'm not seeing many options for her besides to continue pmts, fixing just enough to drive or voluntary repo. Thoughts?
