Have any SEs gone into delivery/consulting? What are the reasons you made the move and what transferable skills did you bring?

Isn’t it usually the other way around, I’m in delivery and it sucks. Hoping to make a move to SE

I would only do it to run my own consulting practice.

I did the opposite, Deloitte senior consultant to first time SC. Both suck, but I find the SC role more challenging however it pays way better so I’m happy with the move

Sorry, my situation was a bit unique. The hiring manager reached out to me via LinkedIn. It was for their strategic accounts and they felt someone with a management consulting background would be a good fit. When I was a consultant I didn’t do anything specific to a product, I was usually in product manager roles and we would implement/develop things from scratch. Like one of my last projects at Deloitte was creating a portal for a client, we designed and developed the code from scratch. Now I sell Cx software

One of the reasons I want to transition from industry to consulting (tier 1) is that I get frustrated when I have to collaborate with mediocre people. My assumption is that Tier 1 consulting firms hire really sharp people and if I can get in, I’ll be collaborating with folks on top of their game (not expecting much from clients). I’m aware there are personal aspects I need to work on like my mindset, patience etc etc, but I just get so frustrated with blatant stupidity.

I recommended a candidate for hire to a manager that reports directly to me. This person is a perfect match, but wanted the manager to obviously recommend. It has to be a fit. The manager just told me my recommendation is not her top pick. I feel frustrated because as much as we talk about the position, I wonder if we are mot aligned on criteria. What do I do? Do I push more for the person I want or will I cause an issue with the hiring manager? How do I get her to see this person’s value?

Hi there. Ex Deloitte Sr Mgr here, currently in tech pre sales (SaaS / MarTech). Recently spoke to both Salesforce and Adobe recruiters for roles that I thought were lateral moves (Sr SA / Sr SC), therefore I did not proceed with the selection process. The recruiters from both companies told me they typically hire at that level, and people are considered for promotion to Principal in 1 to 2 years. I found that odd. Is that right? What’s the typical TC for SAs and SCs there? (15+ yrs exp).
