Are we headed for a recession?
I used SHRM materials and an online prep course, which worked great (passed the 1st time). I started studying 6 mos before the test.
Whatever you choose, I think it's important to be disciplined about the study time. You have to treat it like a job, not something you're squeezing in around the rest of life. For me, that meant every Sat was spent in the library or a coffee shop. I even took all the books on vacation and studied poolside. If you're taking a prep course, it's critical to complete the assigned reading before each session or you'll be lost. I also took PTO the day before the test so I'd be able to do some final practice tests, etc. and be well-rested for the exam.
For the exam itself, you have to remember to think like a textbook and base your response on federal law, not state or what your company would do (this was tricky for me since I was in CA and worked for a very employee-focused company). Establish a steady pace (know where you should be at various time milestones so you can tell if you're falling behind). Remember that all the answers could be correct to a certain degree, but you need to select the BEST answer per the whole body of knowledge. Most of the time, you can eliminate one or two choices right away, but then the others could be nuanced. Don't second-guess yourself. Your first instinct is usually correct. Only change an answer if you have a concrete reason (i.e., remember a factor that you failed to consider, etc)
Good luck!
Thank you!!
You should also do some practical exercises, OP. Use some flashcards and allocate 2-3hours a day to study.
Thank you!!
