How bad were the layoffs at your firm during 2008 - 2009?

Does Globant terminates the employment of certain trainees after their probation(3 Months) based on their performance in the training period? Some of the fresher trainees were laid off this morning without giving a notice or reason.

We were told that the probation period is a training period & not an elimination one. It was shocking as a few of those trainees were actually good.

After 6 years of temporary contracts and unstable situations, I find my dream job in my dream company. All of a sudden the world goes upside down and I get laid off. I start sending hundreds of applications, with only 2 recruiters getting back to me to say I don’t have experience for the job (this is how it works in Italy). Add a terrible health situation in my family and it seems there’s no light at the end of the tunnel. Ugh. 😞

Dad got laid off. Drinking got worse. Attempted assault on sis and mom. Had to put up in hotel. No clue on next steps (legal and personal). Project is complete shit show and SM is not getting it. Idk man...

We have a big project going on and I am the only point person(initiate it, did lot of work, and knows the deets well), seems like my mgr wants to get a headcount. But I want to use this opportunity to get promoted, how can I get this across? Mgr is new(they fired my old mgr), mgr’s mgr is new too(re-org). So not sure if I should/can make a case, or how.

Is it just me or do 90% of the jobs being laid off by big tech sound made up? Many job descriptions with multiple bullet points that all kinda revolve around the same idea. One of my buddies works for a big IT company and literally just sits on meetings all day. No one really contributing to anything other than agreeing to whatever the speaker is saying. Outside counsel has been prepping company witnesses for a trial in August. It is my subject area so I am supervising outside counsel. I did not, however, choose the counsel. He is doing a really awful job. Co counsel is better, but not great either. Higher ups love the firm… I do not want to micromanage, but I have genuine concerns about outside counsel’s ability to try this case.
