But are there any other things I should know? I’m going to stick to it as much as possible, but it’s hard to predict hidden carbs when eating out.
Concerns for reverting back to carb-adapted state? Or keto flu again?
I cheat typically once a week (Friday or sat dinners) and am back into high levels of ketosis by ~Mon/Tues. everyone is different, but as long as you don’t eat 5000g carbs during your cheat you should be fine.
If you want to hit ketosis faster, do a fasting cycle. 20 hours day 1, 3-4 days, 20 Hours. You’ll be in ketosis around the third day of fasting. (Fasting is also healthy and should be done 3x per year for at least 3 days)
I’d suggest limiting your eating out as much as possible, because as you noted there are hidden carbs in everything. If you’re going to take keto seriously you need to count every single macro and make sure your fat intake is between 70-75%.
To also help, start slurping down a few tbsp of MCT oil every day. I normally do 2tbsp shots in the morning and some later in the evening.
Do you have the ketomojo blood tester ? If not it’s necessary as the urine strips are useless
Thank you!
Definitely going to stick to keto as much as possible over the next few days! I do track macros in MFP, but it’s hard when not cooking! I I’ve been sticking around 60-70% F, 25-35% P and 5% net C for the past month and it seems to be working :) I workout 3-4 days a week, cardio and weights so as much as possible I don’t want to lose lean mass (and I have plenty of body fat to use up!).
I do add 15ml of MCT a day to my coffee but I think I’m ready to bump to 2 tbsp now that I’ve adjusted to it.
I’ve made it through the first month and know I can do the diet and that I like it, so I’m gunna pull the trigger on the blood monitor - I’ll order today actually! Thank you again!
Anytime good luck! If you have any other questions feel free to post. Also, if you want to lose more just up your fat and reduce your proteins. Protein turns to glucose so can be counter intuitive at a certain point
