Microsoft is hiring an account executive and I’m really interested in the role. I have B2B sales experience in a different industry, but my skills include lead generation, prospecting, account management, negotiating, etc (all within the C Suite and other decision makers).
Would appreciate knowing if this is something I have a shot at with no tech sales experience and what I could expect for promotional opportunities and compensation.
Thanks for the help!
Finally, eligible to buy T$LA 😁

Don't think there are any cons. Never heard of the CPA hurting someone's career.
Also once you get a job at a firm they'll reimburse for the study materials.
Find someone with an unlimited account who is done testing and use theirs
We have so many accounts passed around our office def doesn’t hurt to ask
If you have zero debt then I'd recommend getting a credit card to help finance some if not all of it. You can also purchase one section at a time on Becker and that way it's not such a big hit at once and you can save for the next while you study. Also save all of your receipts and ask your future employer to reimburse if it's not explicitly stated that they will. Good luck!
That’s excellent credit - just make sure you maintain it.
Plus, with all the credit card offers out there for points/benefits, I cringe a little whenever I meet someone who doesn’t like to use a credit card. (No offense. I get it, I just don’t think it’s a prudent decision).
No cons that i know of (besides time/cost). I would say the pros depend though, your profile says Staff Accountant. Are you in industry and planning to stay there? I got my CPA right before hopping to industry and it did help me in my search but most of the people on my current team DON'T have a CPA or international equivalent and seem to do fine in the company. The real benefit may be when looking to job hop later on
Thank you. I work in private accounting, and I plan on staying in private accounting. However, I am open to moving to public if the opportunity presents itself to get expand my skills.
I honestly haven’t heard of anyone paying fully for the material, since people will often get it paid for through their firm or get their current employer to pay for some of it. If you connect with Becker reps through your school, you can also get some pretty good discounts.
If you can get some of the cost covered, I’d say use your money on the supplemental material/review courses that won’t be covered, such as Ninja and I95
Ahhh got it! Well, in that case, I’d say look for where you can get deals (Becker reps through your school or the nearest public college). And just save up from there. I’d be surprised if Becker didn’t have some sort of payment plan option that’s help too. Best of luck!
Within accounting - no cons in terms of career. Only time I have heard a negative about a cpa is within consulting. A very small subset of people have an opinion that CPAs aren’t creative thinkers, but again, that is a very small portion of people.
Staff Accountant, just be aware that passing the exam doesn't mean that you're a licensed CPA and thereby able use the designation CPA after your name, in most if not all states. You need to work with a CPA and complete the experience requirements. See what it is in your state.
I have four years of experience. 3 years of internship experience under a licensed CPA and almost a year as a staff accountant.
What can you do with your cpa license besides tax prep?
