What feels most aligned to you?
Being at the office doesn't guarantee no impact for layoffs.
My experience. It's usually best to listen to your gut, do what feels best for you even if its not "logical" or popular, and trust that if the company isn't supportive, that there's a better path waiting for you to line up with it.
To be honest, thx for sharing the wisdom with me sir!
I'd still go to HR and formally request it. You may not get it. My firm denied me at first saying in-person attendance is a critical part of the job. If you are approved, it's your choice if you want to come in. Would a meeting room even help you in staying focused? Meeting rooms at my firm are only available if you have a group and all the offices at my firm have glass doors so that wouldn't have helped me. Your don't need to disclose your condition, just the accommodation you're requesting. Your job will only know if you tell them.
Just because your doctor suggests 4 days WFH it doesn’t mean that the company automatically needs to grant it. They DO need to work through an interactive process with you. If you’re willing to be at the office, they should work with you to find a solution with fewer distractions. As an HR person with ADHD, I know the struggle is real!
Thanks! I was honestly a bit afraid of the red tape, especially if an SVP level sign-off is involved.
That’s a tricky one. Because if your employer decides they want to get rid of you that doctors note isn’t the protection you think it is. If they labeled it as layoffs, they can get away with a lot.
Thank you both for the honest feedback! The 'meeting room' suggestion really isn't practical since there are no monitors and too many distractions with people passing by. I’ve decided to let things cool down for a bit before I move forward with the formal submission. I really appreciate the support!
