I have a doctor’s note for 4 days WFH due to ADHD. My manager suggested skipping the formal HR route and just using quiet meeting rooms at the office to avoid 'low visibility' risks during layoffs, and cited one example he saw from his past company. Is it safer to stay informal for job security, or should I get formal legal protection? Also, does this medical data follow me to other companies?

What feels most aligned to you?

Being at the office doesn't guarantee no impact for layoffs.

My experience. It's usually best to listen to your gut, do what feels best for you even if its not "logical" or popular, and trust that if the company isn't supportive, that there's a better path waiting for you to line up with it.

To be honest, thx for sharing the wisdom with me sir!

I'd still go to HR and formally request it. You may not get it. My firm denied me at first saying in-person attendance is a critical part of the job. If you are approved, it's your choice if you want to come in. Would a meeting room even help you in staying focused? Meeting rooms at my firm are only available if you have a group and all the offices at my firm have glass doors so that wouldn't have helped me. Your don't need to disclose your condition, just the accommodation you're requesting. Your job will only know if you tell them.

Just because your doctor suggests 4 days WFH it doesn’t mean that the company automatically needs to grant it. They DO need to work through an interactive process with you. If you’re willing to be at the office, they should work with you to find a solution with fewer distractions. As an HR person with ADHD, I know the struggle is real!

Thanks! I was honestly a bit afraid of the red tape, especially if an SVP level sign-off is involved.

like

That’s a tricky one. Because if your employer decides they want to get rid of you that doctors note isn’t the protection you think it is. If they labeled it as layoffs, they can get away with a lot.

like

Thank you both for the honest feedback! The 'meeting room' suggestion really isn't practical since there are no monitors and too many distractions with people passing by. I’ve decided to let things cool down for a bit before I move forward with the formal submission. I really appreciate the support!

She really smart and hardworking, I would love to help her find a career - not just a job - that she enjoys. Thanks I’m advance!

Hello! I’m a recently graduated MSc Criminology student looking for work. I don’t know where to start or what I’m even looking for, but I’m generally interested in criminology, cyber security (no coding experience) & doing research. I’m very social and friendly and enjoy working with people, would also like hybrid work so I can work from home at times.. Any tips as to which roles I should look for? Any specific companies I should look into? (Preferably UK based, but open to most of EU)

Does anyone have any advice on how to convince yourself life is worth it when you think it’s not. I’m a 28 year guy, just got laid off from my job, have aspergers, have no friends, can’t find a gf, why do I even try anymore at anything

I got an offer from Pwc IAC, HR confirmed over mail that this is a permanent work from home position. But not mentioned in the offer letter.

I got an email confirmation from HR, which simply says "you can work anywhere from India".

I am not willing to relocate to Bangalore, can i trust HR, if anyone working in pwc is aware of such policies please share your inputs.

So as we were the first to get hit with COVID in NY, we are seeing declines in numbers now. Travelers are cut short of their contract, our hours are getting cut, and staffs are laid off. Got a call yesterday from HR that now staffs need to file for unemployment to compensate for the lost hours. We risked our lives for this fight, now they are letting us go. Shit’s fucked.

Hi all, if you’re a mid or senior copywriter in LA looking to join an advertising/entertainment/tech startup on the ground floor, give a shout. You’ll be writing everything from ads featuring celebrities to blog posts, videos, ads for our platform, and probably a few hundred other things. You’ll also work with our parent company, a premier Hollywood production/management company. The role is partially remote (come for key meetings and brainstorms but work remote other days). I have a question, I got a contract role through a recruiter. Initially the recruiter offered the hourly pay rate which was the minimum in my range. Now I got an offer from the company. Now without me asking her she increased the hourly wage to the maximum range I asked. Which makes me doubt if the company increased it or she knew the rate all along but gave me the lower rate ?

My father took a home loan, and the same home is kept as mortgage.
I'm paying arround 22k emi for the same but unable to exempt tax as the loan is on my father's name.

I googled a lot how to transfer it but neither gift deed nor sale deed would work as the property is on mortgage that's under bank's ownership (until loan is fulfilled).
Tax is also getting deducted, I'm paying hefty emis.
What can I do?
Please advise 🙂

Are you able to ride the bikes on the roads throughout the park?
If so, are there places to lock up the bike at trailheads and/or parking lots to take in?
I haven't been to this national park yet, so I was curious how it compares to Zion for example, where it is easy to bike from "stop to stop" to view the scenery or do a hike!

Thank you!

The raise this year came with the title of “Lead” and more work responsibilities, talking with a co-worker we now make about the same amount. I started working here right out of college (10 years).
