I have an offer for a leadership role at a non profit and I am aware that one of the people on my would-be team applied for the leadership role and did not get it. If you have faced this dynamic before, please share how you handled it, and how it turned out. In my experience, it’s always best to offboard that person because they will cause issues more often than not. However, I’m totally open to other experiences and methods. Thanks!

I have faced this situation when my new direct report had applied for the job I got.

I do not recommend off boarding the person. I would rather leverage him as a senior resource. It may take sometime to get him on your side but once you have him, he will be valuable. Also, it reflects your leadership too. I recommend you to coach him and help him cover the distance to the next growth opportunity for him.

🙏 VP

There is no auto answer. You have to be open minded and give benefit of doubt. Sometimes people apply to show their ambition even if not ready. And that is good. You also want to think succession—not just when you leave but what if that person is actually someone who can fill in for you when needed. I have been open and said how can I help you pick up additional skills/experiences so you can become ceo elsewhere—if in a shorter window—or here if you want to take your time. And in one case I asked why she didnt apply for my job and helped her on a professional development and confidence path (and she is still working for/with me). Dont assume the worst here. And sometimes the rejected person moves on by themselves.

Update

This person has viewed my LinkedIn profile several times and has yet to accept my connection request

I had this come up recently and my colleague and talked about how we would handle it if one of us or the other got the job. I did get the job (VP) and they have been supportive and we have a good relationship still. Jobs shouldn't change who you are as a person or your commitment. There is room to lift each other up and as they say, a rising tide lifts all boats. This is obviously very individual, but an open conversation can tell you where you need to go here. People don't have to leave to have a successful team.

Update, he is a good lieutenant

Glad I gave him a chance

Hi, currently i am working with icici bank in backend operations in CIB team as Deputy manager but i am looking for an opportunity in Accenture can anyone help with the openings or referral??

I’ve been approached my by company that one of our large clients (who im currently project managing for) is looking for a consultant of sorts, and if they hire us, I’d be the first person asked to take on this consultant role. This isn’t something my company typically offers and would greatly change the scope of my role. Has anyone ever taken on a role like this? If so, were you able to negotiate a percentage of the consulting fee? Or was it a bump in salary during the project?

Hi all. I’m a ux designer at a small company and need to recruit a few people for usability testing. Our target demographic is people over the age of 35 who’ve been in leaderships positions. If you’re interested I’ll send the link- the test will take about 15-30 minutes and pays 20$. No human interaction required.

Looking for advice on what types of reports/data are most convincing to senior leadership for keeping staff on who serve internal functions (knowledge managers, intranet, content specialists)- I fear these are the positions which will be lost/replaced by contractors. I want to improve my quantitative skills so I can be more succinct. Any recs for skills I should learn? I can’t spend much $$ (i.e no grad school.) ps My title makes it sound like i have more background in analytics then I do :)
