UBS If I had to move within the company to a different location , how does it work? For example if I move from low cost of living area to high cost of living area does the company re-evaluate the base salary within USA? Or do they come back and mention its your family requirement since your partner is located and you are moving ?Suggestions or experiences any !
Has anyone used eharmony? Yay or nay?

The first time this happened to me, I thought it was an honest mistake, but I've had this happen several times over the last year at various stages in the process, and I have concluded it's just becoming the way people and companies are conducting hiring right now. With so many people applying for jobs, there isn't any pressure on companies to treat applicants well. If 50 people get angry about their experience, there's 500 people in line behind them.
So I get it. When you are unemployed each interview takes on a level of importance. So it’s beyond frustrating to have this happen. But before you get yourself worked up, wait and see if there is a reasonable response from them.
One time I had an in person interview - after work hours. When I arrived the building was locked, and he had gone home. But by the time o got home he had called with a frantic apology - and he advanced me to the next round. It didn’t make for the no show, but he was apologetic, etc.
Maybe something happened at the last minute and he was unable to give you advance notice. Life happens. How he handles it makes all the difference
Good luck
Oh no! I'm so sorry this happened to you. Being ghosted is disrespectful, and I would think people in our profession would hold themselves to a higher standard.
I totally agree, how unprofessional! Last week I had a company cancel a virtual interview on me two days before the interview. When I responded I was told they already had three interviewees in person scheduled. When the interview was originally scheduled I told them I had complete open availability and they booked it out two weeks... why so long. My time was waisted researching their entire company website, LinkedIn profiles, and I had reached out to contacts from that company in preparation of the interview.
Additionally, I had another interview scheduled for that company to not show up on Teams. When I asked about this one they implied their ATS went down, which has nothing to do with a Teams calendar invite.
Thirdly I had a company asking me what have I been doing with my time since the company I worked for went out of business.... hum I wonder...I've been wasting my time researching websites for people to unprofessionally cancel my interview.
Good Luck!
I've had interviewers show up 10-15 mins late with no explanation and trying to be casual. If we were that late to an interview, we would be automatically disqualified. One hiring manager during a virtual interview was rolling her eyes, texting on her phone, and typing the whole time instead of paying attention. Most interviews i've been to are very one-sided as far as them grilling and interrogating me, and when they hear something I say they don't like, they passive aggressively end the interview, and don't actually discuss the role, company, salary, benefits, etc and I have to ask them as if its an afterthought.
Even if the interview goes well and they say "we'll get back to you with next steps and scheduling the next interview, they just ghost and flake, and you never hear from them again. I've had this happen to me the majority of the first and even second round interviews i've been on this year. Its amazing how bad and unprofessional these companies are and that we're supposed to just take it.
I had the same happen. Then they followed up to reschedule (with no apology or reason why they didn’t show the 1st time) and without rescheduling, I got the “we’re going with other stronger candidates” email. Mind blowing to me! I’m sorry you were ghosted. It’s sucks out here.
The fact that they sent you the "we're going with someone better" email without rescheduling/ever actually speaking with/interviewing you is too much! I would be SO ANGRY!
I have had the same company do this to me 3 times!!! Won't even consider applying with them again. Really sad when it involved 2 people in HR and I reported it to the head of HR. No response!
I've been ghosted AFTER first and even second round interviews. Some of the interviews themselves were pretty bad and unprofessional. As a HR professional myself, its disappointing and sad that a lot of recruiters and hiring managers are throwing standards out the window and are being this bad while they have the nerve to complain about candidates and "we can't find anyone!"
Holy, that sounds really bad 😕
This is so frustrating, and my thoughts are with you. I, myself, have applied to over 85 positions varying from HR to construction management, and have gotten only 4 interviews and nothing afterward. As a prior HR manager, I find it extremely disrespectful when a company doesn't value the time of others, as time is something we cannot get back! I wish you much luck and success in finding the right position. My mindset has leaned toward the thought process of "maybe it truly wasn't right for me and I dodged a bullet". That usually helps ease the sting a bit. Sending positive vibes in your continued search!
That's a great positive mindset! And it's very true, if they are willing to treat their employees like that, do you really want to work for them? Good luck to you as well, I know you'll find something amazing!
I am so sorry this happens to you. It’s hard when you are excited and wondering if this will be the one. Perhaps something happened on their end. However, it’s not a good look. I must say the behavior of some companies still shocks me. My new fav reason is the “went with another candidate” and literally repost the job on the same day. Happened several times. Hang in there. It’s a tough market.
I am so sorry to hear that. Sadly, that probably won't be the first or last time that happens. It seems like recruiters and hiring managers are really bad about ghosting right now.
I had one company schedule me for an interview with a manager. She cancelled on me multiple times. Excuses like she was sick, her teammate was sick, they are busy , holiday. Then finally I recieved a disposition email That they were moving the position from remote to on-site. It was the most unprofessional process I ever had. I gave the recruiter my feedback but who knows if they even care. 2 weeks later a recruiting agency called me to scout me for the position I told them to not waste their time.
I had this happened to me not too long ago. The recruiter reached out to me to schedule time for a virtual screening via her calendar. When the time came she never showed up and I waited for 15 minutes. Another company just simply canceled the interview the night before with no explanation.
I hear you. That is so frustrating. I actually prepared an eLearning demo for an interview, and five minutes into the interview, they said they were no longer looking for an instructional designer, but a project manager instead. I am still quite put out that they wasted my time.
Wow I am so sorry!! That it is so disrespectful to your time and effort!!!
Hi there! Guilty. I should be clear to say that I have scheduled interviews and not been able to show up for the call at the time. HOWEVER, before you crucify someone, when I've had major events that have impacted my ability to appear for an interview, I contact the candidate later if I can't do so in advance. I've had to explain a child emergency more than once, a car accident that prevented me from being able to get back to my desk on time, and being so sick that I couldn't keep my mind straight enough to cancel my appointments that morning before the interview. I wouldn't call it ghosting. Maybe give the interviewer a little grace and reach out to see if there was some kind of issue that prevented them from attending. I wouldn't call it ghosting unless you don't hear from the recruiter after the fact within a reasonable time.
You could've also given the candidate "a little grace" and sent a quick note saying you have a personal emergency and you needed to reschedule. That's just professional curtsey instead of ghosting.
Be careful! Nowadays…there are fraudsters appearing as employers…to get your personal info….
Same the other way when you spend time and own money to apply to jobs, the tone goes silence. A simple email to say someone else has been selected is always good manners as well. Good luck on your search hope something arises soon for you.
That's unprofessional, and a waste of a candidate's time. It's particularly bad when it is a staffing company that does it, and then tries to get you to use them once you are in your new job. My answer would be no!
Yes I have two staffing companies I refuse to work with because I see how poorly they treat their applicants when I was an applicant.
It’s sad but it happens on a frequent basis.
I'm sorry this happened but it sounds like you dodged a bullet. If this is how they would treat a candidate, imagine how bag it may be once hired.
Keep your head up and remember God didn't let you don't in places you aren't supposed to be in. I know that hard to accept right now, but it's true.
My mother got me started with this little prayer before an interview.
Dear God, Please give me favortism of the interviewer of this is where I am supposed to be. I trust you will make me shine brighter than others of this is the place for me.
Amen
That is so terrible that this happened. I hate to say that I have accidentally missed a couple of phone interviews over the years but it's a once every couple of years kind of thing followed up by a phone call to apologize and rebook.
All I would say is that if that is the way the current HR person showcases what the company is about, you are better off not working there.
Traditional resume submission is required but if you haven't started using your HR network to find other opportunities, definitely consider that. It's much easier to get a feel for an organization when you know someone who works there who can also tell them how awesome you are. Best of luck on your job search.
It is rough out there, I am on the market too. I also work as a recruiter and can tell you that as hard as we try, we have tech issues, personal emergencies and leadership meetings that sometimes cause us to miss appointments. Please understand we are people too. I am in a consulting role because the person before me died. I am sure her candidates in process had a few meetings missed.
