Is a graduate certificate in Human Resource management equivalent to PHR? Are there any differences/similarities?

I’ve wondered the same. I have a masters in HRM but keep pondering whether a SHRM or PHR will help me become more competitive. Not even sure which of those two certs is more acceptable than the other. Maybe someone can enlighten us and explain which one is better career wise or if both is equal.

like

Thank you. I was recently studying for the SHRM but I put it on hold because I wasn’t sure which cert holds more value. Not saying that the PHR isn’t valuable but it appears that SHRM is more recognized across HR.

The graduate certificate may include more of the theoretical aspect of HR along with the practical. The PHR will guarantee any existing expertise and experience.

So with that being said, do you believe that if someone has the graduate certificate, and the masters degree in human resource management, they should get a PHR or go for one of the SHRM certs?

A post-graduate certificate isn’t much, a masters is a bit better, but from a “what the market values” standpoint, SPHR or SHRM-SCP are most valued.

(Coming from someone who has all three. I honestly don’t even list my post-grad certificate on my resume)

I chose to start my masters program instead of getting my SHRM because I thought it would look better. Now I’m wondering if it will look kind of lazy…like, if you have the masters, you obviously know the information, so why not just take the test/get the certification to back it up? I might be overthinking it. I also think that sometimes people are more comfortable with what’s familiar. Meaning, they know what’s covered in the SHRM/PHR certifications, but they may not know how thoroughly topics were covered in your masters programs because they all vary just a little. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Here’s to hoping someone has an answer for us!

I am starting a 4-months internship at a company B in January. However, I just heard from a company T that they will interview me for their full time position.

Company T is paying me way more (twice) than Company B. And I like company T more. However, they want me to start working in February if I get this position. If I end up getting the offer, I will have to quit my internship at Company B, almost immediately after I begin the internship.

Is this okay?
