Once you have an offer tell them you have a planned vacation on xyz dates and it’s usually fine.
This.
Coach
I would frame it as you are unavailable to start then due to a preplanned vacation (not asking permission to plan something).
Firms always want you to start right away. You have to push back.
Coach
Um...dont we all have "unlimited vacation" that we never use?
Mentor
You’d be surprised how many firms still accrue. My last three all had unlimited, now I’m back at one that accrues and it psychologically makes me want to take it more bc it’s use it or lose it. But also I found out that no one really tracks it for attorneys unless someone is taking huge advantage.
Did you negotiate a guaranteed year end bonus with new firm? Then think it’s ok to start and not meet hours?
I haven’t tried to yet! It might be too early in the year for them to agree but worth a shot.

Take the vacation before leaving the old firm.
And also try to negotiate a guaranteed non prorated bonus.
