Ok be honest, candidates. I really love this set of questions, I’ve been considering shifting my current interview style to these questions - I think they really give you an idea of who this person would be within the work setting. But the questions almost feel too deep for a recruiter to ask. What would you think if a recruiter took a different path and asked these questions instead of the usual ones?

If you're getting interviews then it's not your portfolio that's the problem. Talk to a career coach; it might be the way you're presenting yourself or your answers to their questions. How far do you get in interviews? Are they enthusiastic or just polite?
By "first cut" you mean no one responds to your application, or that you are cut after being contacted by a recruiter? Most applications are never seen by a human being. You could be zeroing out because of ATS. That said, post your book I'll tell you if it sucks.
If you are willing to help, would you mind please commenting so I can DM you 😇
