From what I have been hearing, moving the metrics has been common, even though there isn’t a realistic reason to be doing that for most of these companies. I would also start looking around and find something that better suits you, and if you are a good performer, you should be making that money!
Seems to be a theme out there right now.
Bro get out of sales asap this is the story with so many companies. Use your sales skills to put yourself in a position where people need you. You don't deserve to have your paycheck controlled by someone else! I did sales for so long and I love how people say there's so much freedom when in reality sales people work 1000x harder than so many other professions. If you put that grind into something else you will flourish!
Sales is temporary/occassional/seasonal at best. Don't let them try and tell you your worth as you're making more and more money for them. Companies are meant to take care of the employee, period
Polish up the resume and start trying to get out of there. This isn't what you signed up for, and it doesn't sound sustainable if you're already feeling the squeeze. Job searching is never fun, but you have to look out for your best interests.
There may not be much you can do about them moving the goalposts on you. Unless you have a signed contract laying out the compensation structure they can probably do whatever they feel like. In any event, it's probably good to just read the writing on the wall and get serious about finding something better.
I'd look for another job. Unfortunately this seems to happen a lot at companies. We strive to crush quotas and are often rewarded with unobtainable quotas. Good luck!
Shady dealing at it's core. Ditto on getting another door open before you close this one. We wobble but we don't fall..Similar happenings are common for a myriad of reasons but those that can't be explained or executed transparently raise red flags.. Good Luck
That’s really tough. It’s frustrating when you’re working just as hard but seeing less reward. If you’re hitting targets but still losing out financially, it might be worth exploring other opportunities, especially if the company isn’t recognizing your efforts. Have you tried discussing this with your manager first?
this literally happened to me at my old company and I jumped ship
Itdepends on a few things. First, yeah start searching for better don't quit until you 100% got the new job. 2nd, depends what your total compensation is now. 3rd, what they're doing is demotivating and they're squeezing you for what reason as in just feel like keeping more and paying out less or are they hurting and loosing money on prior agreement. 4th, if they made it harder to hit quota and pay less commission on your fruition then is not a good sign for things to come perhaps.
Start your job search! Find a company that appreciates the time and effort you put in to it. Some companies try to sharpen their pencils and get greedy. Jump!!
Put some glam on that resume and get the hell out of there; this is the exact moment when you need to know when to leave a company and move on to a better role
Take a look at the market. Are you overcompensated comparatively? Companies like salaries and bonus over commission as it is easier to budget and increases their control of bottom line. Take a look at the product or service you sell and look at the margins. Perhaps the organization is struggling or has pressure on operational things like rent, taxes, tariffs, shipping etc. Easiest way to quickly recapture cost is headcount/ payroll and inventory. Have a real conversation with your manager without complaining, be curious and inquisitive. Show interest in the overall company.
Welcome to sales! Unfortunately, this is a long standing practice in many sales organizations. Sometimes the new commission plans are designed to drive the lower producers out the door. Searching for a new role is always an option but A players often figure out how to work the new plan to accomplish their financial goals. Good luck!
I agree with everyone who said I would look for another job. That just isn't the kind of place I want to work and that is a really stressful envrionment to be in.
First, talk to them and find out why things are changing. Also, start looking and see what is out there. Some companies may be doing the same thing.
This is common place in sales & no matter where you go, your targets will always go up. I have had some sneaky tricks played on me, such as over shooting my target by so much that the company tried to use legal & illegal ways to get rid of me. We came to an agreement & we left. So it’s your choice & leave if you must, but you could face the same thing again. Maybe consider a career out of sales!
Look real hard before you jump off that ship, the rescue boat may never arrive!
The company isn’t going to adjust you back upwards without increasing your performance. If you are seeing decreased income it isn’t going to change. Companies like in our own homes are cutting back to maintain / improve profitability. Everything costs more for them too. If you aren’t happy with your situation time to look while you are working.
I'm in similar situation and I'm leaving syl
I would apply for jobs and get some job offers. Then tell your current employer, you're not satisfied with your base, and new commission structure. If they don't do anything about it jump ship.
