You’re not going to remember being on this case ten years from now, but you’re going to remember not being there for your bird. Figure out a way to stay local or take some leave, especially if you already feel like her days are numbered
Agree! Pets are family, if there’s any way you can be home with your bird, hope the project team is understanding
Just try to be straight up with someone, like a trusted mentor in your firm or team and get their advice. HR could be helpful as well. It’s not easy and it’s a difficult conversation to have, but being honest about how much this affects you is the best way to go about this.
Cont. I'm absolutely terrified I'm going to get a call on client-site that she's passed. I am all she has and I'm spending all this time away from her.
No chance to fly back early ?
:( sorry to hear that. Can you take some personal time?
^ some project folks or even your boss May not understand but this is your time to take a stand and be with her
Thanks everyone. I was lucky enough to be local for most of the year. I feel like I'll be seen as selfish or unreasonable in demanding to be home more but it's just so hard. I've had her for so long and I can't help feeling like I'm abandoning her at her time of need. She's my fid (feathered kid) and parents don't abandon their kids!! But I know most won't see it that way. Plus I don't have a reliable support system to watch them when I'm away. If I did that would definitely take some of the guilt/stress away.
