At the start of the month, spoke w a CD I knew about a spot at his agency. He said my salary request was a bit high & told me his cap. Fine, still interested. After a couple of weeks of nothing, their recruiter calls me on Thursday to tell me more about the agency and the role, then says the salary parameters & it’s $5k less than what the CD said. I told her the number he said & she said she’d talk w him. Did I just ruin my shot? And when should I follow up?

Why does it cost more to hire someone from outside of the agency than hiring a former freelancer in the agency as a full-timer? Also, the outsider’s salary is quarter of what the new full-timer is getting. The math just doesn’t add up to me.

Compliments on work performance are the new “We wont pay you for your work and worth, but we will give you a shout out on social and ig.”

It’s free and I appreciate it, but they don’t pay my bills. I like a raise or at least a fair compensation please thank you.

I’ve been unemployed and have been in the final stage for a few jobs. I think one of them is giving me an offer this week, but it’s the lowest title and salary. The others are bigger companies with higher titles and more money, but the problem with that is that they’re not moving at the same speed. Thinking if I get it that the process will take until late September or early October. What do I do if it’s offered (other than take the job immediately)?

What salary range should I expect with 2 years of client-side experience looking to move to an agency in LA? Is 2 years still junior? For context, I’ve been told my book is solid but slightly lacking in big, conceptual thinking.

If you negotiate a salary for a full time job, then they tell you it’s now temporary freelance with potential for full time (at the same salary rate), can you negotiate a higher freelance rate until the full time job starts, or will you get ghosted? Asking for a friend.

Salary transparency's been on my mind. It seems like now is a great time for agencies to implement it to help maybe attract better and more diverse talent, keep high retention, etc.

Is there a rule of thumb for freelancers about how your hourly rate should compare to your day rate? Should your day rate be 8x your hourly rate? More? Less?

Is getting LinkedIn premium while job hunting a must? I want to reach out to recruiters directly but inmail is only for premium members. I’m getting discouraged. I know one month is free, but it’s just a lot of money after that (my salary is depressingly low)

Wish we could be as specific as hiring companies are now: Writer seeks mid-size agency in small city with low traffic, easy access to nature. Agency must be independent. No holding companies. Conceptual Art partner must be provided. Salary must meet at least 4As standards. Mac provided can not be more than 2 years old. Agency must be AOR of for at least 5 clients for at least 3 years each. One account must be an alcohol brand. No open plan offices permitted. Agency must do my taxes.

Currently a senior AD...thinking I really should’ve been a producer. Has anyone made the switch? Would I have to start from the bottom again? The salary drop is what’s making me hesitate.

Just curious, what’s a reasonable salary for a Senior Art Director? And what should I be asking for a ACD level? The Agency is based in NYC.

In this current climate, a pay raise and promotion may not be likely. Do you stay hopeful and wait till your company is back in the green to potentially reward you for your past efforts or do you jump ship to another company who can pay you the right salary?

I don't think I'm super amazing at my job, but I'm also not so bad that I would be fired. I'm just..average and I haven't been able to get to that rockstar level. The issue is obviously me, I don't really grasp certain areas and I am decent but not great at client relationship. Assuming that my team, work life balance, and salary is decent, is this a sign that this isn't for me? Been in agency world for a while in a few different roles and I feel like I've just been average in all of them..

what is the avg strategy director salary in New York?

Recruiters need to take more heat for hiring diversity in our industry. And to those recruiters that also handle salary negotiation or titles, I wonder how many times they low balled diverse talent. Recruiters do not get a pass and just blame the system.

Just curious, what’s the salary range for account supervisor and/or social media manager in NYC? Know they can be similar titles when at an agency vs. agency in house.

I got recruited for a analytical role with Ford, it’s a contract to hire position with great benefits, double my salary currently and close to home. The contract is for 6 months then can be hired in full time. Should I take the position or no? What do I have to lose?

Should an ad agency be able to thoroughly check my references and ask for my entire employment history (including why I left each job) before agreeing on a salary?

I’ve had 7 interviews, met every stakeholder, was initially approached by one of them, who will be my boss. Plus I’ve had great feedback after every interview.

I was laid off from my previous job because of COVID so don’t have a ton of leverage. But that shouldn’t make me powerless. The process just seems like overkill.

Thoughts?

Curious from agency leaders, what’s the better strategy? Pay cuts/long term salary freezes, but limiting layoffs as much as possible VS. having furloughs/layoffs and being able to provide promotion and raise opportunities.

I’ve experienced both at different agencies, and have been saved and burned by both sides. Would love to know everyone’s thoughts!

“Not polite to talk about salary” is a big fat lie used to control wages. You should talk openly *at your place of work* so people feel empowered to negotiate for raises. FWIW I make just shy of 100k
