Easier for a 30 year-old Harvard MBA MBB consultant to become a NBA player or a 30 year-old NBA player to produce world class decks?
Easier for a masterclass plumber to run a complex excel forecast or a Partner who's never done a lick of blue collar work in his / her life to replace a sump pump?
More likely to commit an ethical trade breach: consultant or stripper?

Finishing up Mechanical Engineering with a good gpa... planning on doing an MBA... What type of job should i target after that, bc i would like to earn good money(living in nyc)...any advice or any trajectory suggestions? Thanks

With current salary around 120k, should I pause my career to do a full time MBA or do something part time like the Booth Evening and Weekend program. goal is defense/national security consulting at MBB. It would put a lot of financial strain on my family for me to quit working and go to school full time but at the same time I worry that part time will drastically reduce my chances for the career I really want.

This is what a few of my friends are saying is the salary growth trajectory (non-IB)for someone in one of the large banks with a MBA or masters or higher. This is for someone who doesn’t get content early on and tries to work their way up with some movement between banks. Sound accurate?

How is the project situation at BCG? Still a lot of demand or many people on the beach?
Have an offer from McKinsey and BCG (post MBA).
Currently at another smaller consulting firm and colleagues tell me that especially new hires have a hard time and also read that mckinsey has a lot of people on the beach but couldn’t find too much for BCG? How are you doing?

I’ll be applying to joint degree MBA & CS masters programs next fall and realized that some schools require academic letters of recommendation. I’ve been out of school for 2.5 years and haven’t kept in touch with my professors (though I did perform strongly in their classes and for research projects) - how do I go about “reminding” them about who I was and what I did? Should I try to “grab coffee” with them in the summer/fall? I feel so awkward 😭

HBS admit - 65-70% aid (tuition only) or MBB sponsorship (full tuition and rent). What would you pick? Long term goals don’t involve being at MBB and want to try getting into VC. I’m having a hard time convincing myself a T15 MBA is worth it for me, I make 125k. Spending 200k on the degree sounds like it’s too much. On the other hand it seems like a good chance to get a break and think more deeply about what I wanna do with my life. I’m kind of burned out and depressed. I’m wondering if anyone was in my spot and if the mba helped them?

My long term goal is to reach a leadership position probably CEO level but I love tech as well.
Unfortunately I don't see MS helping me reach that position.

I want to get to know the local private companies. I worked at a private company with 2-3k employees before my MBA. They had an amazing culture, but limited progression opportunities. I'm thinking about looking for a smaller company (couple hundred to couple thousand employees) in the Dallas area and looking to find an amazing culture.

How does one get into consulting if you don’t have a solid connection in. I’m 26, got 4 years of strategic experience, an MBA, and I do as much networking as possible (I have had several referrals). I also had help on my resume multiple times to get it perfect for the industry, yet, I cannot get a single interview.

I completely understand that it’s a competitive industry and I am totally fine being patient, but just getting a chance to interview would be incredible. Any advice?

Looking to get into healthcare consulting. I have a BS in biology and 6 months of sales experience in an unrelated field. What suggestions would you have to make myself competitive? Are there any certifications I should obtain? Would it be a bad idea to go for a MBA now?

Does a PE Ops role come with decent wlb? My standards are low. I need protected weekends, and Fridays that end at 5 pm.

Thinking about hopping jobs next year to boost my MBA application since I feel the work experience/responsibilities are a little light. Any recommendations for areas and/or competencies to develop. I'm coming up on 5 years of work experience: 3 at a bank and 2 at a private debt fund.

Had a conversation with an HR over the expected salary for a role which mentioned they require someone with an MBA from a Tier-1 B-school.

As per the HR, their budget was 1/2 of my present CTC and quoting such a number will be infuriating to anyone with a similar background, considering the fact that even people with B. Tech degree from a Tier-2 college with decent work ex are getting more than that.

Is the hiring team and the HR ignorant of the reality or is this plain foolishness by them?

looking into rolling old 401k into a Roth IRA. I just graduated from MBA and therefore have only worked a few months in 2022. Am I correct in thinking that the taxes I pay will be lower than if I did this in any other year where I worked the full year? Any other drawbacks or things to think about?

Planning to take MBA in 2 or 3 years time. I will have 9YOE by then and probably a Senior Manager in consulting. Would it make sense for me to do an executive MBA instead? What are the Pros and Cons? What are the EMBA programs you can suggest? Did my research, Kellogg and Wharton are pretty good not sure if there would be some opposing opinions. Thanks for the help!
