I had someone (26 year old) apply for a non-advisor role on my wirehouse team who is currently an advisor at a bank channel. I don't think he is a good fit for the non-advisor role (wealth management associate) because he eventually wants to be an advisor again. Any reason not to explore him trying to move his book ($300k rev) to my team and see if he can make it as an advisor? I won't guarantee him completion of the FAA program but will mentor. Gotta earn equity partner in my opinion. Thoughts?

MBB partners - Is it difficult to survive and hold your position as a partner long term? What are the challenges and how do you overcome?

Just saw a Sr Partner move to CEO role directly, while obviously good for them, what motivates this instead of hiring from the ranks? Historically, how successful has it been?

All the viewpoints here seem to be about equity Partners. How does it differs for an MD? For instance MDs at EY get performance based bonus and higher pay. But it seems like an exec position with higher pay expectations, which I can get at industry. So should I switch firms to get partnership if my current firm can only offer MD to me ? And I want to be partner

Would you take high risk / high reward consulting gig at a small firm? Comp is hourly and project based. Firm has a good foothold in the niche market. Offers lots of flexibility. But no benefits and since it’s project and hourly based it’s feast or famine. If you have a partner (spouse, domestic partner, etc.) and they had a stable job, would it change your perspective of taking the high risk/high reward role?

My partner is an accomplished writer and author with 10+ years in digital media as an editor (lifestyle, food, travel), but they are looking to get into something less volatile after layoffs. Any ideas how to make the pivot into content or marketing? How to position for exit ops when kind of senior but in a new role? I’m a life science consultant so coming up short on ideas.

What do you think are the pros and cons of being a Partner in Tier 1/Tier2 consulting firms vs a high position in Big Tech vs being an entrepreneur ?

While I have learned from the exposure, I dont intend to continue in a tech role & looking to exit. I'm thinking of Customer/ Partner Success Manager roles with one of the CSPs. Are there other non tech cloud exit opps in industry to consider?

Associate at laid back small firm (15 attys) with 5 yrs exp weighing lateral to AmLaw200 for corporate/M&A. Current firm has no billable req (avg. about 1600 a year) while new firm has 2000 hour req. I’d make at around 50k more per year by lateraling, but concerned with the work life balance and exit opps from biglaw in a few years (envisioning 2-3 years once I have paid off debt). I’d also make partner at current firm in about 2 yrs FWIW. Thoughts from those who have made a similar jump?

What does it mean when the partner after a second round interview says "we are not hiring immediately, but will keep me updated. But if you don't hear from us, not take it as a NO!"

For a senior role (Principal, MD) when do firms typically do reference checks-Before or after extending an offer? In conversations with a PE firm and it’s going well. The founding partner said during the in-person meeting they really like me, have gotten positive feedback from every partner, and see a good cultural fit. Wonder if this means they’re close to extending an offer or is this typical to say and could still lead to no offer

Best tenure to exit from MBB?

I am invited to interview at AWS for the Senior Partner Solutions Architect role in the Analytics segment. What level and comp should I target? I will bring 7+ years of experience in Data Architecture and Data Engineering on cloud.

Rant: I interviewed at a mid size firm for Senior Tax Associate role and went really well. Partner calls after a couple days to say they want to offer me a job and asked me if I wanted senior 1 or 2. I said senior 2 since I have a years experience as a senior and she was okay with it and discussed salary. She said she will think about the final offer and let me know. A week later she comes back to tell me that my small firm experience probably won’t help much and it would be difficult for me...

I’m in a niche tax/consulting group and a DA as an S2 up for Manager promotion in July. I accepted a SFA position at a smaller private company.

I told my Partner, who I truly believe has my best interest at heart. He said if I want to leave PwC I should stay until Manager, and I will have much better opportunities available.

In a tough situation. I love my role and the people at (1.5 yrs in role) MS. Was networking on LinkedIn and connected with a partner who got me an interview and now offer paying 55% more than current salary?

Is it safe to assume I’m not getting the position?

25 y/o female, only 3.5 years into consulting and can’t see myself doing this forever, rising the ranks and making partner. I feel like a failure/loser for wanting to stoop beneath my potential and exit the rat race at such a young age. Already looking to pivot, but no idea where to go. I’m in change/transformation/strategy so no technical skills. I enjoy helping people be their best (coaching / program management / talent optimization type work). Sad that my only skills are soft skills. Ideas?

Have an interview with a partner at PwC Thursday for an associate role. What can I expect?

Vent: I haven't done anything today. I should be working but honestly the work i have left for this project, I could do in two days and in reality no one will ever look at it. Im going to be with this client for the next 5 months with other work so I can always update later too. Its just me and occasionally my manager & partner on this client.

I was approached by an executive recruiter for a partner position. Had a great intro discussion, I sent my bio and full resume over to setup further discussions with two other partners and have not heard back. It’s been 1 week. Should I reengage, wait or move on? I am excited for the opportunity but don’t want to seem desperate or overwhelming.

Hey peeps, looking for ur advise. Getting offered an SM role outside big 4 with a firm working with mid size businesses. I have a great relationship with the Partner, plus also know the head of consulting in the new firm (overall good impression). They want me to build a new practice, and success in that could pave the way for the partnership. The compensation is also good and won’t get the same even if i get promoted in my current firm. What questions i should ask to qualify the opportunity?

It has been communicated to me that I am not Partner Track. If you were in my position, would you accept a role in industry that matches your current comp but is a true 9-5 job?

Any insight on what a Partner Success Manager role is for a tech vendor?

I have been a non-equity partner for about 8 years in a small matrimonial law firm. Time has come for me to fish or cut bait—start my own firm, or join another firm in a parallel role. I’m excited but terrified at the prospect of starting on my own.

Who has any words of encouragement or caution??? Is this the perfect time or the worst time to undertake such a transition? Please help!

@partners - I have two opportunities. One is to lead a group for a corporation (industry). The other is to join another consulting firm, doing the same work that I am doing now. While the comp will be better to stay in consulting and I do like the idea of becoming a partner one day, I am intrigued with the steady industry role... any advice?

Question for my fellow consulting 🐠.. have a potential industry opportunity with a 20% salary increase. Allows me to be mostly local doing stuff I like with a boss I really love. Been with the firm for about a year and am doing decently well and actually enjoy my work and like my boss. That said, don’t covet the partner track but unsure whether the move within a year is a bad choice. Currently am a director and role is a senior director..long term see myself in industry..any thoughts?
