Fishes need help - I have a mentor who is about to become a partner in her early 30s. I am incredibly happy for her, but am genuinely embarrassed as my own career has been shit(layoffs cut progress).

Although she has stated multiple times that she wants to keep in touch, I feel like I am an annoyance to her and feel embarrassed that despite all her time and advice, I failed and am a waste of time to her. Any advice on how should I proceed with this relationship? I don’t like being a burden.

What happens when a multi year implementation project goes south? Does the whole team get fired?

If I’m fired, do I still get a severance package? Will it impact my next job? Thanks

Hello Everyone, I have received offer and right now I’m going through the background check. I have heard that the BC takes time. I have already informed my current employer regarding the job offer and they have given me counter offer to stay, still paying 30k less than what new company is offering. I can see on LinkedIn that they are still hiring multiple of developer for same job position. I fear I will have to compete with other and some of us will end up fired after probation period.

How secure is EY during a recession? I know Accenture does a lot of layoffs.

Do boutique companies give severance packages if they pip you?

My boss scheduled THE conversation. Ive been coasting for a while and I don’t think my group knows what to do with me (atypical skill set). I’ve accepted job with another company but the background check is taking a long time so I can’t give notice. Not sure how I should handle the conversation? I can beg for forgiveness, tell them the truth or request severance.
I have no reason to think the background check will fail, but always paranoid about these these things.

Do consulting firms give a severance package if they lay you off?

Currently unemployed. Last couple of years have been tough. Been through 2 layoffs, one to a reorganization and another due to Covid. Lost multiple family members to Covid.

This is my experience: 9 years of experience in Healthcare, working with Payers, Providers, and Hospital Pharmacies. My skills are in Change Management and Revenue Cycle Management.

I want to stay in consulting but open to any industry. My skills are can go to any industry. Can anyone provider a referral please? Thank You.

Debating using an offer to get a counter offer from my firm to drive up my offer but also leaning towards not giving any notice until I’ve accepted, passed any screenings, and have a solid start date. Has anyone done the former and straight up gotten fired? FWIW, I am owning the most critical piece of my current project but it’s a toxic situation and I’m a little paranoid.

Can you get fired for foreclosing on your home or declaring bankruptcy?

Thought/Opinion: Job seekers market will evaporate as soon as a recession hits. Most available job postings will go away in a heartbeat and companies which have ballooned will begin layoffs.

Who else knows they’ll never get fired.

I realized that the only time I found a new job was either when I was laid off or when I took a sabbatical from work to devote time towards my job search.

I'm just completely amazed to see how some of you juggle your full time roles and job hunt/interview on the side. More props especially to people who have young or demanding families!

If you are on a 60 day PIP, what happens if you leave on medical leave around the 30 day mark. Do you still get fired at the 60 day mark?

Just learned that Kearney used to be a part of McKinsey?? When I was in college students in the business school would always talk about MBB as the gold standard— at least the few times I stepped foot in the business school for projects. But Kearney was never ever really in the conversations.
Then I got to ford and learned that ‘smart redesign’ (layoffs) were done by BCG. Which reenforced my belief of them being the big players.

I work for a small company and my manager got fired this morning...

Pre kid work ethic != post birth work ethic….just have to figure out how to make that known without getting fired.

I've been a top performer for years. Going the extra mile. Working nights and weekends.

And now I can't stand working past 5pm. And between 9-5 I can't focus on work either.

Things keep falling between the cracks and I'm honestly starting to hope that I just get fired soon.

How hard is it to actually get fired. Like do you actually have to be doing nothing and never show up to meetings and continuously miss deadlines? Like I see so many workaholics sending late night emails or on the weekends. Do people work those hours because they are scared of being laid off or fired vs trying to set boundaries and working normal business hours?

Got an offer at Korean arm of a Big4 firm. They claim it's standard to offer a 1-year contract (indeed, every other office job I've had in Korea is a 1-year contract, but I've never been consultant). Korea also has robust employee protection and laws are different - you can't get fired after 3 months.

For anyone hired by a Korean firm, is this also normal for firms? I talked to friends stateside who told me to be wary since it's not "regular" status. Trying to verify ppl's experience.
