How do you fire someone? Not the logistics and such, I know all of that. How do you mentally prepare yourself to fire someone?

This person has been holding me and my team back and my boss told me he thinks it’s time to let this person go. The firing is justified.

I was fired from the first job I got after college and it still scars me to this day. I don’t want anyone to feel the way I did but this is something I need to do. Can anyone relate and how did you move past these feelings?

Started at Deloitte 3 months ago , and I have 44% utilization. I have heard mixed reviews on if I will be fired or not.
First project was a 3 month project which ended a month ago, been on bench for 1 month now.

How does bench time affect new experience hires ?

Story time: back in undergrad I interned and accepted an offer with B4 tech risk. Turns out they had fired my biggest mentors at the company before I signed and tried to change the details of my offer post sign. I ended up having a panic attack. So, I reneged, got blacklisted, and ended up having to recruit again. This week, I’m starting my new job at MBB, and had a a recruiter from that same B4 reach out about a higher up role in their consulting practice. Said I wasn’t interested 😁

How easy/difficult is it to get fired from a T2 strategy firm for underperformance?

Seeing some noise on LinkedIn about layoffs at Deloitte today - what gives? Thought folks couldn’t be hired fast enough…

I’ve finished my final rounds with Deloitte and waiting to hear back on the decision, with that said does the Insurance consulting practice have as bad of a reputation for layoffs as D does in general? I do not trust this market.

I have 3 YOE with Capgemini but I’m unhappy with quite a few things that D seems to be doing better at.

At B4, if you did barely any work throughout the week, could you get away with it? What are the actual consequences? A poor scatterplot rating that is barely related to performance anyways? Missing a randomly distributed bonus? How low is the threshold for not getting fired?

Is the hot job market season over? Seeing tons of layoffs on LinkedIn, but it seems mostly confined to small tech companies and of course peloton.

Sleezeball question here, and I feel dirty for asking but I’m curious…

If you plan on leaving a consulting firm and already have a start date for another position, what prevents you (besides your conscience) from staying on the bench until you get fired? It seems all too easy to just bill the bench and act like you were searching for another role while already starting at the other company.

What kind of options do firms have to deter their employees from doing this?

If I am leaving my current company to a competitor- do I get fired the minute I resign?

Who thinks the peloton layoff was recommended by consultants? I’ve done my fair share of recommending workforce reductions and site consolidations

Why do consulting firms constantly hire and then constantly layoff? Like my firm is laying off people as they reach out to interview new people at the same level 🤣

Some notes I took down in a client meeting today: 1. Thank god I’m not on camera or I would be fired immediately for reacting to these comments 2. How often do folks at the SM level get asked to leave/fired?

How do you feel about job stability for newly hired folks in firms that went on huge hiring sprees with big offers and more leniency on "target" metrics than typical recruiting? Will there be a point where the huge influx of new consultants exceeds new work brought in and a bunch of companies end up having to do layoffs? Or am I being paranoid?

I haven't made a move yet, but it's something I've been thinking about and it worries me.

Can you get fired while you are pregnant in NJ? My work has been slightly affected due to what I am going through but my manager sent me a long email today pointing the things that had to be fixed. We have weekly one on one calls to discuss work. Maybe they are collecting evidence before firing me.

How long can you sit on the bench before anyone takes action? And can you get unemployment then? I’m on the bench and starting grad school in April-ish time frame, but was thinking —- why not just sit on the bench until they layoff? Fire? (Not sure which they’d do) and collect unemployment then or better yet get a few months more pay.

Been in consulting for three months and I now understand why you always see people on this app talking about being overwhelmed. I’m in my ramp up “apprentice period” and working awful hours and constantly thinking I’m going to be fired.

I also understand the drug use 😂

How do I get off a project without potentially getting laid off? Joined the firm 3 months ago, but my project is terrible. I can’t sleep, work 60 hours, developing anxiety and low-key depression just thinking about my next day of work. How do I tell the manager/partner I want out? The client is very important to the firm. But Im done, there’s no other option. Please help, im really going crazy and can’t be there for another month.

Quick survey: How many people were fired from Big 4 during the pandemic? Big 4 always boast that they don’t fire people but I’ve been shocked to hear this year that numerous firms did during the pandemic.
Now all of these firms are scrambling as they look for talent and people are refusing to come back.
