I’m back on the job hunt after layoffs. Feeling a bit discouraged. The market seems a bit weaker then the news let’s on. Any recommendations on job search activities? I’m using LinkedIn and applying to jobs. Thank you for any help.

Would you refer an old coworker you dislike to your job for the referral bonus? My old coworker Home was fired from his job is now asking me for a referral to my current job. I’m wondering if I should put in my referral just in case he gets a position or just stay out of it

Can I be sued for working two full time jobs if the companies are not competitors? Understand that it is against the terms of employment but worst case I’d just be fired. Both jobs don’t have many meetings and working hours can be flexible so it’s possible to manage both

2021 vs 2020 - thoughts? I actually think they’ve been equally crazy. 2020 was nuts with the pandemic and shutdowns and layoffs, racial crises and unrest, and the election.

2021 has the variants, anti-vaxxers, everyone quitting their jobs and companies scrambling to hire back everyone they laid off, insane stock/crypto market with everyone gambling away/lighting all their money on fire, Afghanistan falling, and just in general feels like everyone is manic and frothing at the mouth. New normal?

How did you all deal with failure in your career. I was ambitious and smart. I was in IBM and considered to be one of the best of my class. I was fired and haven’t really found my way.

I don’t know what to do anymore. 3 years after the fact, I am still at an entry level position. I hate myself for letting things get this bad but I don’t know how to get out of this perpetual cycle. I tried working my ass off but have not been able to shake off that unfortunate past.

Was working in my community’s lounge with Deloitte swag. A girl probably saw the Deloitte logo and walked up to ask if Deloitte was hiring. Said she used to be in consulting but got fired when Covid hit and started doing OF. Now that OF will be gone soon, she’s contemplating going back to consulting. I didn’t know what to think or how to respond and I just said I’m on a call. Now I’m contemplating making OF account to check out her content 😅

Just remember when you are stressed or worried about something literally the worst thing that can happen is you get fired (and even that's extremely unlikely). Theres a lot of jobs in life where mistakes actually matter. This isn't one of them.

What would disqualify someone from receiving unemployment after being laid-off/fired? Also, doesn't at-will employment mean you can be let go at any time without reason? Wouldn't being at an at will emp make you ineligible for unemployment?

I didn’t apply/request unemployment aid until 4 weeks after getting laid off in the fall last year. Is it possible to get back paid for those weeks? Thanks

I heard Deloitte is planning mass layoffs. Is that true?

Joined industry 2 months back but now the group is undergoing restructure and my role is no longer needed: so I was given the choice of staying in the company for 3 more months and look for a new position internally or take severance. Will this short tenure be a legit reason to tell recruiter? Or the question is: should I even be honest in the 1st place?

When I was at Accenture I thought ACN Strategy was the top of the top but I didn’t go to a fancy school so imagine how hard it was to network my way in. Then they stopped transfers because of COVID and I was laid off despite all of the good reviews I had calling for me to be promoted. I was almost happy with 100k just to be a senior analyst in Strategy.

Today I just signed my offer at a tier 2 firm and I’m making over 180k. Thank you Accenture for the lay off. EVERYONE KEEP PUSHING!!!!!!!!

In the state of CA for a full time non-exempt role. If fired without warning (no previous warnings/feedback) ⚠️ for "performance" (although performance was arguably good) or actually "team fit" (politics), do you have any case or legal standing?

Projects are sized with an aggressive timeline. However clients will take their time to respond, meet since they know they won’t get fired easily for not prioritizing the project (as they have the actual day job to focus on). How does Partner just blindly accept this fact and still want an aggressive timeline? On paper they’d say it’s client issue but still want it done ‘on time’, on budget.

My coworker was abruptly fired. He runs all of our Asia markets. I supported him and have now been asked to “step up” and take over his markets (quadrupling my workload). I’m half his age and make half of his salary (70K). I want to use this as an opportunity to negotiate for a higher salary. How much should I ask for? Is $120K too insane of a jump?

Currently, in accenture. I have had very bad billable hours and not much achievement this fiscal year. I am worried of getting fired, so i applied for another job. Got offered may be 5% above my current pay with 5k bonus, but in lower level at Deloitte. I think working lower level will give me more opportunities to learn as i think i have lot to learn. I made decision based on my gut and accepted the offer. I have not talked to anyone on accenture side yet. What you think?

Anyone else have a lingering fear that they could be fired at any moment? I’ve received great performance reviews and my partner says I’m doing very well, but I don’t vibe with my colleagues as well as it seems others do.

Nothing kills my motivation faster than working with a shitty manager. I get all fired up about the work I'm going to do talking to the partner and senior manager, then after pointlessly discussing asinine garbage with the manager for an hour I just want to log off for the day and do nothing.
