Can someone quickly tell me what people mean by job insecurity regarding Deloitte and Big 4? I have never seen anyone get fired anywhere I've worked but have heard of so many people in B4 being unable to sleep at night because of $$ insecurity or that have actually been let go. How is it so easy to be let go? (Have a lot of questions today yall - very hesitant to leave my cushy international development life for the much higher paid but stressful mainstream consulting life. What’s the shortest time frame yourself or someone you’ve heard of being on a role due to being unhappy with the job? What happens? Does one get fired or move projects?

I joined a company a year ago. It has been acquired by a big company years back. Now the owner company decided to sell off our company (division) to another big company. The current owner is telling us that the RSUs which are not vested won’t be accelerated or granted. The new buyer is giving us an offer with a lot worse terms compare to our current contracts. They are giving us 48 hours to sign or be laid off by end of the month. cont.

Do you ever get on a client where there’s barely any work to do at all? I’ve been on an engagement for 4 months now and I work maybe 3 hours max a week. Some days I feel guilty but others I’m just like - let me do the bare minimum to look good and not get fired.

Friend got a massage tonight. Massage therapist knocks off Apple Watch from the shelf and it shattered. The girl was apparently worried about getting fired so friend didn’t say anything to front desk. I argued for business should pay for that but he said that was so awkward. What would you do ?

Reflecting on a previous experience I had in consulting. How typical is it to just get straight up fired after you roll off a client project?

Former KPMG fish, when you got severance, was it lump sum or paid out like your normal paycheck?

In years past, people used to talk about Oracle, Cisco, IBM and GE the way they talk about FAANG now.

Before that it was Digital Equipment, and Wang Computers. Before that it was AT&T, Ford, GM, and Chrysler. The list goes on.

Along the way, the people who over-optimized for those companies got laid off at the worst time possible - late 40s/early 50s.

The point is that you shouldn't get enamored with a brand. FAANG will eventually go that way too.

Looking for roles internally at the current company, and the role identified is an individual contributor role. I exited consulting at a Director /SM level, and due to the layoff took a not so good role 2 years ago. The hiring manager for this role asked "why do you want to be a people manager". Frankly, I was a little shocked at this even being a question. How would you react in this situation it you were me? Would you entertain/respond to this question at all? The communication is in writing.

🐠, I was laid off from industry during covid and started consulting this year, which was a step back in terms of level and salary. I have received an offer that would allow me to course-correct and advance past where I was before. I like my current firm and have put a lot of effort into making it my new home; however I don’t like my project and am stuck on it. I am terrified of making a move so soon into a role that isn’t a fit or worse, results in another layoff. Appreciate all perspective!

My Director and I don’t see eye to eye. Our personalities clash, sometimes he sits in meetings I have with my staff in silence to observe. The micromanagement is making me feel like I’m going to get fired soon or something.

I got laid off during the beginning of the pandemic. Since then I’ve been struggling with drug use and finances. Deloitte hired me out grad school. I’ve been unable to find a job in IT Controls. I got laid off during Covid and pivoted to PM at FAANG and a partner is reaching out to me about rejoining. A part of me misses consulting but have the salty taste of my lay off experience.

Has any MD, Partner or leader fired a client? I was thinking about my last consulting gig and the main client treated the women on the project like dogshit (many of them crying in their cubes) and how the senior leaders just shrugged their shoulders.

Here’s my issue - I have been highly ranked in my annual reviews 3 years in a row, why would It even be a discussion topic? Is it logical to think there is someone at the top who wants me gone or am I overthinking this.

For those in senior positions- how are you not constantly worried about the success of your work? There’s so many things that can affect P&L that are out of your control, how do you stay calm and not feel like you’re going to get fired as soon as growth slows?

Accepted an offer at Deloitte but got another offer and want to renege. Worked there before and got laid off. Would other company find out in a background check or anything like that?

I wish people would realize that requiring a vaccine to go into the office is not a vaccine mandate by a company.

Simple solution: work from home. Like everybody’s been doing. You’re not going to get fired for not going into an office.

I’m transitioning into consulting and I landed what I think is a good offer. Is it normal to feel like you’re unqualified and that you’re gonna get fired a month into it because you won’t be smart enough to do the work or is that just me?

If you hand in a 2 week notice but the company lets you go immediately, does that mean you’ve technically been fired? Would you potentially get a severance package in that case?

*Sorry if this has already been asked. I know it’s At Will Employment, but I don’t understand how that plays into “being fired” if you’re let go early, and where severance packages come into play, if at all
