Deloitte 🐠- taking zoom interviews on your Deloitte laptop, bad idea?

Does anyone else have that co worker that chats you all day like 24/7 during work hours? I’m happy to be friendly and fill extra time but it’s becoming annoying when I cannot walk away from Slack because I’m getting pings about their personal life. Advice to not ruin the relationship?

I brought an Art director/friend onto a gig with me and she’s been terrible — dropping the ball left and right and terrible at communicating. I keep covering for her bad work by comping/ picking up slack because i feel responsible for bringing her onto the project. Is there a polite way to replace her and still keep the gig? Or should I just take a new one?

Hi! I'm a systems analyst (YOE - 2 yrs. If adding internships, then 3 YOE) and trying to pivot into data analytics/science. A fast learner with a decent amount of transferable skills. I've been taking online courses for the past several months to add necessary skills to my resume (SQL, Looker, etc.). Anyone willing to provide a referral to Google, Apple, Slack, Okta, or Facebook? If unable to, any advice on changing careers or data analytics is greatly appreciated!

Any ideas on fun team bonding events/games to improve culture in a new remote tech startup? Very small team with long work hours, we are trying to build a people culture but hard because we can’t see much of peoples personalities through Zoom meetings much.

In your opinion, how important is it to be perceived as always being online (available on teams or Skype)? Asking because I’ve noticed people commenting on a certain associate always being online at odd hours.

I'm starting to look around for something impactful and could use some help. Amazon's remote roles are pretty limited. I have a heavy background with cloud, AI/ML and data. Looking to be involved with using my skills to move the needle on something interesting and engaging but not wanting to work grueling hours. Higher pay has usually driven my career moves.

Started a new 100% remote role less that 6 mos ago. A dream come true right?
Wrong. I feel so disconnected from boss, teams, not sure I’m doing anything right, now self conscious don’t feel I’m adding value.
Everyday me: can’t get out of bed get up last possible moment. Spend entire day on zoom. End of day haven’t worked on a thing Mtgs all day. I’m too exhausted to do housework or cook. Last week I spent entire work week inside never going outside. Evening should work but tired feel failure

I know programmers generally dress pretty lax, but some of my team members have just tanked their wardrobes over the past 2 years. If someone's wearing a tank top on a Zoom call, is it unprofessional?

My CEO is literally *always* on Slack. 5 am? Online. 11 pm? Online. Saturday, Sunday, holidays? Online. I know I’m not really expected to work around the clock (though I often do), but having him never, ever not be online is stressing me out. How do y’all deal with this? Just put it out of your mind?

Was getting yelled at by senior manager via Zoom for going over budget.
Didn’t respond, just dropped from the call Intentionally, due to the tone/ aggression shown.
Gave him 3 minutes to calm down and rejoined the zoom call.
He settled down and adjusted his tone.
Do you guys think I need to report to HR this behavior or just let it go? I’m a professional not a child to berate.

Hey 🐠, looking for some advice - what’s the best way to approach a conversation with a more junior team member about being out of office frequently? Since they were hired back in May they’ve taken off 1-2 days per week for various reasons (plus 1.5 weeks for vacation)… I understand that things come up, people get sick, etc. but it’s impacting delivery / I never know when they will ping in the morning and say that they won’t be in so I have to have someone else, or me, pick up the slack…

Only started investing big money this year. Down 60% all time (from this year) which is about a 50% loss from my whole savings. Pretty devastated. It’s been a underlying stressor for the past 10 months. Any recommendations are appreciated. Biggest losses have been Zoom and WISH.

I can’t stand parents who post photos of their children with dumb captions on the office-wide Slack channel.

How long do I wait for an interview to be rescheduled? I had an initial phone interview in July and they didn’t reach back out until the end of Aug. They scheduled a Zoom interview for mid-September, but canceled two days before and said they would reschedule. It’s been almost 2 weeks and I haven’t heard back. Should I reach out and re-confirm my interest and inquire about the rescheduling?

Anyone else have an extremely negative Pavlovian response to seeing a Slack ad run during football games this weekend? Hearing the Slack knock/sound effect when I was trying to relax, yuck. Please take that sound out of the ad at least!
