I’m not doing keto exactly but low carb enough to be close. I’m 61 and in the last 9 months I’ve lost 60 lbs.
Do you count calories or just basically stay away from high carb items and your normal breads, sweet ,starches, etc? I eat low carb but it has gotten tougher in the last few years … I used to be able eat low carb and it just fell off … now I can eat low carb and I might lose a lb every week or two or three 😢
I am 58 and lost 30 pounds since March. I am now 9 pounds away from my goal weight. I recently had total hip replacements on both hips at the same time. This was my motivation for losing weight and I am so glad I did! My recovery is definitely going much better than if I had the extra weight.
What made me successful this time as opposed to the last time I did Keto and failed is counting calories and watching my macros. I use MyFitnessPal and count everything that goes into my mouth. I also use intermittent fasting and make lunch my biggest meal.
Good luck in your journey. 😊
Im not in my 50s. But when i started Keto, i was 21 weighting in at 230 LB and 5'8, I did strict Keto (under 25g carb per day) with weekly cheat days on Saturday and was able to drop down to 145 LB within 5 months.
Resisting temptation was hard since I was and still am a foodie, but I thought about how nice I would look fitting into different nice outfits that were once too small for me. I thought about the healthy lifestyle I want to have, and how good it makes me feel. I play a bit of pickup basketball, and notice how how much my scoring improve simply because i was able to run a bit faster. It is these small non-scale victories that kept me going. Also, thinking about that horrible guilty feeling I always have whenever I chow down on these big, carb-heavy meals helps to deter me from slipping as well.
Good luck on your journey. You did it once, you can do it again!
I’m 51 and lost 9 lbs in the first month. I fell off for a a couple of weeks and am restarting today.
You have to look at your portion sizes. As we get older the amount of calories needed may be different. Also learn about fasting. 24 hour fasting twice a week will give your body a enormous advantage when I comes to healing itself and using ketones as a fuel source. Break your fast with grass fed beef bone broth (look up benefits of bone broth) . You also want to keep a decent muscle mass. A easy way to get back into the habit is to try yoga for beginners.
I do have trouble with portion size. I hate fasting almost as much as yoga. I love bone broth!
I’m 64 and doing OMAD + Keto. I also have thyroid issues. I am a slow loser, but I am losing. This is the only thing that has worked for me in 4 years.
I am 59 and lost 50 pounds on Keto since starting back in March 2022. I also completely reversed my type 2 diabetes and took my A1C from over 7 to just recently 5.1. I had double hip replacement surgery in June and due to my weight loss and exercise, I am pain free for the first time in nearly 20 years. I will be on keto for life and I recently added intermittent fasting. Keto doesn’t work for everyone but it definitely is working for me! I tried it a few years back and lost some weight but then stopped. Gained all the weight back plus some. I will not do that again.
I’m in my 60s and needed to add fasting to keto to see results. When I was in my late 40s thé pounds flew off. But I have health issues and take thyroid meds.
I have lost 6 stone or about 72 pounds and I'm 57 and work full time
