I studied for it. I took a class through my job. However I will say that the test was surprisingly easy. With good business ethic and common sense and self paced training PHR material one can pass the test. What I found was that class participants that were not employee centric with a good business understanding ended up going back for a second testing try.
Ok true! And how long did it take you study/ how long were the classes? Try to gauge when I should plan to apply and start and what’s a realistic amount of time to measure out spending on getting it
I studied like crazy but not much of the material from the books was on the actual test so I’m not even sure it helped...
Yikes true! And how long did it take you to study?
I took a 3 day class through SHRM and was given excellent prep tools. I then devoted about 5-10 hours each week to continue studies with the exam about 4-5 weeks from class conclusion. I passed first time.
Ok true! And why did you pick SHRM over PHR? I’ve heard so many different people say do one over the other and rn its 50/50 and I can’t tell which is better
As a SHRM instructor who has taught both classes, I think the the CP/SCP is much more valuable. And it’s the competencies that set it apart. I also think it has a better overall perspective of HR then the older certifications. I think as a young HR professional the PHR is better because it really focuses on the legal aspect but as you grow in your career and you’re looking to continue to grow, the CP/SCP is more likely to get you where you want to go.
