I had a similar experience but different order. I went on a Europe trip by myself before starting and the whole time I was anxious and kind of blew the entire trip and didn’t do much in terms of sight seeing / experiences etc. About a year later I’m much more comfortable and fully made the adjustment to my new life. My advice to you is to push yourself to do things while abroad and try to experience things and not waste your trip. You’ll feel better when you reflect on your vacation and in a better mood when you go back to work. Honestly it takes time to adjust so you just have to get through it and try to have some fun along the way.
Sounds like our situations are somewhat similar actually, this is my first trip abroad that I’ve done by myself, so I think that’s the biggest issue. I appreciate the advise on this, I’ll try to push myself out of my comfort zone a bit to make sure I make the most of my trip. Honestly, it just helps knowing that other people go through the same situations when it seems like everyone around me is doing just fine.
I’ve been prone to generalized anxiety in the past, and usually it’s the worst with new experiences (starting new job, moving, now traveling internationally for the first time). Anyone else experience things like this? Any tips on how to help manage? It feels difficult to make myself productive during the day feeling this way.
England is awesome. Lots to see, do, eat, and drink! I get a lot of anxiety when traveling to new places, but what helps is pre-planning what I'm going to do - down to nitty gritty or how I'm getting there/how long it take (even if it's just a restaurant around the corner) Hopefully that small tip helps!
Also recommend reading a lot of reviews. I know some people don't like doing this as it might ruin the experience, but it is helpful for me because I know exactly what to expect.
