Does your practice group make associates do mock motion arguments every week?! my practice group assigns random motions from old cases that i’ve never worked on for each junior associate to “argue” every week….

I feel like this is a huge waste of billable time, and also patronizing. I understand we need to learn, but why not do mock arguments with our current caseload?! this is abnormal? I think i landed in the wrong firm.

I was called into HR because a coworker overheard a conversation between me and another colleague taking about cable/streaming shows that we watched or recorded. I mentioned that I recorded a few true-crime shows. My colleague jokingly said, "I hope I'm not on your hit-list!". I replied, "Not anymore." HR pulled me in to say a coworker complained about me talking about hit-lists, and they were now scared. HR wouldn't say who complained, so do I have a right to ask about the resolution to this?

So our CEO asked me and a colleague to give a Start/Stop/Continue Mid-year review of our CIO who’s been our Head of Product for a few months (Our Head of Product left because of him when that guy came in)

We have a lot to say and none of the PMs approves the way he operates.

Anyone know why they call market paying firms “Biglaw”? Why not “Top Dollar Firms”?

Is it a fail of character leaving biglaw? I want to leave, but despite the constant stress and suffering, I can’t avoid feeling like it’s my fault or that maybe I’m over exaggerating how I feel. All my colleagues feel ridiculously happy, I’m the grinch one that’s never enjoying the grind (but the grind is hard and competitive, very competitive) :( any thoughts? Third year corp associate here. Drafting a contract from a form of agreement and some comments that were provided by the client. It’s taking me !!! FOREVER !!!! Like HOURS for what should be a simple contract. I am spending a lot of time trying to find ways to incorporate the clients vague comments appropriately while also staying consistent with with the form … am I nuts or is this normal?
