I entirely agree that the phrase "that's the way we've always done it" should be purged. But I disagree with that article when it argues that saying "I don't know" or "I'll try" are things that shouldn't be said. That's ridiculous, those are things that, if said more often, would prevent a lot of problems. Better to say you don't know something than to pretend.
Hard disagree on some of these. If my CEO says “I know” instead of “I think” when I know they don’t actually know, I would sprain my eyes rolling them and probably ignore everything that came after. This is confident incompetence.
I am really guilty of the I think or I believe.. Can absolutely see how wording really can be a huge thing though. Even just the ability to professionally say we don’t have time for that right this minute, but saying you will come back to it later, and actually doing that, can make a huge difference.
