Downsized my career and went to work for a boutique. Meets my basic salary requirements and don’t have to travel or do OT, which gives me time to pursue other interests. The extra $$ are not worth the effort.
As my husband says, “If you have the money (e.g., to travel), you don’t have the time, if you have the time, you don’t have the money.”
However, I know how to bargain shop to get deals on clothes and airfares, and besides, I appreciate enjoying the things I worked hard for earlier in my career like home, artwork, etc.
I went contracting for a few years, so I'm an "Independent Consultant" for the past few years. But contracts have dried up in my region so considering going into an industry role, at least until the contracts come back.
Early 50s is too soon to retire completely.
Currently aiming for age 56-57.
Not sure I could break-off completely (but willing to test that)
2-3 years away. Just saving and trying to estimate when I am going to kick the bucket
52 launched a consulting firm two years ago. Gave up on B4 and walked away from sweet pension - hope to retire by 70. Don’t know if I can stop working, psychologically it’s like I need to work
Similar 54 at Accenture. Would have worked another 6ish years, but now ... am thinking of framing it as 'semi retirement' and doing some contract work if the right permanent role doesn't come along. Will also help us adjust towards a lower retirement income level. I'm not ready to do nothing quite yet!
M1 I'm on Canada so no concerns or challenges there.
Considering it now. Tired of this job, but have young kids, and am wondering if companies won’t hire me because of my age.
