Hi- I recommend HRCI if you’re pursuing more labor relations type work or SHRM if you’re pursuing more strategy/people ops. Also recommend looking into HCI.
My work has been primarily people ops but recently I’ve been wanting to pivot into employee relations/labor law + compliance. Thank you for breaking it down!
SHRM, everyone looks for it
This was going to be my suggestion as well :)
HRCI was original but SHRM came later and now known for credential. I heard HRCI is more respected. There are some people who hold both. Whichever you choose, can always put in parentheses equivalent to HRCI or equivalent to SHRM
HRCI. Original and more respected.
I have both. I had a HRCI PHR then got the SPHR and finally the SHRM senior certification. I don’t recommend getting both. I’ve found that only HR people care about the certifications but most senior level HR professionals I know don’t have either certification. SHRM’s certification is easier to maintain. For HRCI’s SPHR you need 15 hours of business credits and now you need 1 hour of ethics credit to recertify every three years. The reasoning is sound but the credits can be hard to come by. If you are going to get a certification get the SHRM or the HRCI PHR.

HRCI
Hello, OP. My advice would be to get a certification fro HRCI. It's reliable.
Recommend hrci
SHRM
Go for HRCI. It has always been the choice of many for technical admin work. You get SHRM if you want your hands on the employees.
There's a sordid history between the SHRM and HRCI split, which is still hanging over SHRM's certifications. HRCI has its own issues with an average 50% fail rate for knowledge based tests, but it is more reputable for that reason, too. You have to know your stuff inside out for HRCI certs.
Start with HRCI, then look to SHRM. I have and maintain both SPHR and SHRM-SCP.
Get an MBA, operations appreciates it more.
SHRM is the better option, in my opinion. What's your career goal, OP? I think you can also base your decision on your goal.
Not necessary honestly
