I saw a student at a McDonalds this week while out with my family. He looked mortified so see me. I spoke to his mom for a bit. I feel as uncomfortable as the kids do sometimes. 😅I don’t live in the area, but we ended up over there after getting a flat tire. Makes me glad I don’t live too close to the school I work at. Anyone else see kids during the summer randomly? Do you live in your school boundaries or far from them?

I have kids screaming across the mall at me to say hello. It's hilarious.

Teaching middle schoolers would be fun for that aspect. I remember my middle school science teacher being the coolest teacher ever! Must be a thing with you science teachers 😂

I always run into a few kids over the summer, I live in the town that I teach in so it's pretty unavoidable. It's either a super awkward encounter or it's fun to get to catch up with them and their family, there's really no in between.

like

There really is no in between! 😂

Awh poor kid! It's easy to remember feeling embarrassed at seeing teachers outside of school so I wouldn't take it personally. I've run into many of my students because I live in a small town, and it's just the norm. Nobody bats an eye because we all just know everyone in this town.

like

It must be an interesting dynamic to live in a small town! I’ve always wondered what that would be like for a teacher.

I see students every time I go out. Three years ago, a student ran away and hid after he saw me in the grocery stores. I saw him and called out his name. He told me later on that he didn't want me to talk to his mom.

like

I wonder what his current grades or behavior in your class were like at the time 😂

I love seeing my students and their families.
At this point I am meeting their children. It warms my heart and is an honor.

like

Oh wow! That does sound wonderful. You must be a great teacher to be having those kind of encounters. I hope I can get to that point in my career!

Does anyone have family members who constantly demand money because they feel like you’re rich now because you’re a lawyer? I’ve always wanted to be in a position to help my family but we all live in the high COL city so my salary doesn’t carry me as far as it would elsewhere. I’ve given a detailed summary of all of my expenses yet every month one family member in particular comes to me for rent money (not some, the full amount, and they refuse to get a job). It has become quite the burden.

Making this a bit more dynamic. I’d love to know everyone’s view on this. What are your 3 main dealbreakers when considering a relationship with someone?

How have you combated your fear of rejection? I fixate on such small things as when my friends, for example, reject plans I have made. This definitely makes me more averse to putting myself out there and makes me ruminate on past perceived failures, which are clearly not good for personal growth

For anyone in this bowl. How crucial is it for you to have a formal dining room separated from the kitchen? My son and daughter-in-law are buying a house for their future family and I'm trying to convince them a formal dining room looks better and makes things less chaotic in the kitchen, especially with kids. HELP! 30+ years of teaching Sped and I’m at a loss. 6th grade student in Middle School with Doose syndrome. Prior to MS, the elementary said he never caused problems. Since the 1st day, he is disruptive in class, refuses to work, and is disrespectful. He has a one-on-one para but she is in tears most days because of his behavior. Parents agreed with a behavior plan - he thinks it’s a game. Parents say he is not allowed to be this way at home.
