I have an offer from Walmart but I'm also interviewing at Meta. I'm midway through the Meta process but there's still a long way to go and I don't want to rush through it unprepared. Both are for a Data Scientist position. Any suggestions on how to deal with a situation like this? Walmart Facebook (Meta)

They don’t have to pay people or for unused vacation days. That’s why holding companies switch to unlimited PTO.
Everyone that says unlimited PTO is shit is simply not ballsy enough to take the time they need. We have unlimited PTO - I take several Fridays off and at least 2 to 3 weeks a year plus the typical industry holiday break. I work a ton but when I schedule a vacation I schedule a damn vacation and I go. Make it a priority.
Once we got unlimited PTO this year. We also happened to go through a year of sporadic layoffs and closed an entire office. Nobody got severance for their PTO. Enjoy!
I have 31 days next year and seriously doubt I will use 31 days under an unlimited PTO plan. There becomes a stigma...
Cons are that your supervisors will never feel like your PTO is your time, because it flows from an infinite well. They’ll find themselves wondering if you’ve taken more or less than you deserve. It’s a strange sort of audit that appears once rational number counting disappears. Just be wise. Don’t be the nail that sticks out higher than the rest. Conform, conform, conform. Enjoy life. . .just not too much.
Me and things you have to “use responsibly “ don’t mix well.
I’ll take Mandatory PTO over Unlimited PTO any day. Unlimited PTO is bullshit.
Wait really
You don't get your "I quit my job" bonus bc they don't have to pay you out for unused vacation days anymore. It's so sad.
Does this apply to all IPG companies or just IPG?
I've never had unlimited PTO but I have had unlimited sick days. So I think I have some insight, but take it with a grain of salt.
PROS: Potentially more PTO
CONS: You may be made to feel like a bad employee if you take more PTO. You'll always worry that you're taking too much. That time is no longer "owed" to you as part of your employment contract. It's all discretionary. All employees now have the same PTO terms, which favors more junior members.
Personally, I'm more happy to just slowly increase the amount of PTO days that I will always take and never feel bad about.
When we got unlimited, you stopped being unable to add it to maternity leave. On the other hand, within a year or so, our primary caregiver leave was expanded to 6 months and secondary to four weeks.
I love the idea of mandatory PTO. I’d rather have three weeks I was required and expected to take than six weeks where I never feel like I have the time or flexibility to take it
It’s going to save RGA and subsequently IPG hundreds of thousands if not millions when the layoffs hit, don’t have to pay renewing pto anymore - try taking 365 days of pto maybe?
Its an accounting scam. They get all that $$$ off the books and look better financially next quarter. (and they can write it off) They know most high paid advertising employees won’t feel comfortable taking vacation anyway.
Umm I will not feel guilty about taking PTO. As long as your work gets done and well, you shouldn't feel guilty. And if your bosses make you feel guilty, you're working for the wrong person and/or agency.
Agree with CD2. Previous experience was exactly that.
Confirming here that whatever this is, does not affect R/GA. Thank God.
Probably what it actually translates to when filtered through office politics bullshit is that there is now zero PTO.
Con: If you’re laid off or quit, you do not get paid for the PTO owed to you.
