My husband and I are on vacation with his parents and our three kids. It's driving me crazy that he keeps taking calls from work and answering emails. I'm often left alone to handle the kids, and dealing with my in laws isn't my idea of a relaxing vacation. I keep trying to get my husband to be in the moment and ignore his phone, but he either outright ignores me or tells me I don't understand. Is it really so crazy that I expect him not to work during vacation?

Have an interesting scenario. Holiday party season is approaching. At one of our parties (during working hours) there is an optional “talent show.” Employees can win door prizes. We have an entry that is a religious song - like one you would sing in church. I assume we need to let this employee perform this - or we are setting ourselves up for trouble. Likewise, if we permit this song, I assume we cannot compel attendance to the talent show. The talent show is part of a lunch thing.

Is it reasonable to ask for three weeks before joining a new company? I was thinking a two week notice and a week vacation to take a breath. What do you think ?

My wife recently put in her two weeks and half the people she worked with are just ignoring her messages. They asked to work longer but bc of her new company she cant. Shes moving for about 60% more pay from external audit to senior accounting. Shes extremely sad and im confused why these firms are so uptight about this. Finally hit my breaking point. Been nothing but irritable & pissed off these past few weeks. Coach asked me on Friday when I’ll be taking time off & I just broke down. I’m a top performer & a workhorse. I’ve put so much effort into making sure my team is okay I forgot about myself. Now I am buried in work, performance is dropping & I can’t stop crying randomly. I kept telling people I am drowning but no one was listening. Coach is leaning to tell everyone to backoff thankfully.

How does one tell their boss (owner of the company) that you are burnt out? The sheer volume of work is exhausting and I haven’t taken a true vacation as we are a small company so if something urgent comes to my email I feel like I must respond. I was given an additional title and more responsibilities last year as well but only a 3% raise for it.

A company has 2 candidates, aged 25-30, equal in every respect save one’s a man the other’s a woman. Maybe the woman is a slightly better candidate overall. They’d have equal comp.

Company considers the woman a riskier bet due to possibility she’ll take maternity leave — and considers the man less risky for his ineligibility to take as much leave. 🤷
