How do you deal with negative salary growth? I was laid off this year and subsequently accepted a job that paid less than my old one (though still good by national standards). It doesn't have an impact on my living standards, but just feels bad to be on a negative trajectory. Any tips?

How are intense are background checks at b4? Interviewing and worried that if I do get an offer firm will find out I put I’m a manager when my technical title was associate. my cousin was laid off last year. He was making about 80K+comm - sales role. He finally got two offers (each at 40K+comm). He said it was too low and declined both. I tried explaining to him that he has more leverage being IN a job than out no matter the salary. Then he tells me that the roles he turned down wouldn’t allow him to interview for other roles. He’s like a brother but I feel he keeps making excuses and he gets attitudey when I try to explain another POV. Any advice on how to handle?

I was doing a great job working remotely but I didn’t feel safe and I mentioned the toll it was taking on my mental health. I was fired last week but just got my separation letter yesterday. I have 2 interviews that are both in the 2nd round but I’m nervous about the background check and coming off as hiding my employment status by not being upfront

In some other democratic countries bureaucrat and people in official positions cannot be fired by politicians. I guess that's a much better option..thoughts?

In need of help- Kept debating whether to post this, but trying to help my family. Is anyone aware of companies that are hiring older employees? My dad got laid off months ago from covid and he is 61. He is a highly qualified/experienced Enterprise Software Sales Exec (Cloud, AI, Analytics, and other areas). But he is struggling to get hired especially at big tech firms. Its very obvious it’s because of his age (but of course they can’t say that). Trying to do my part and find connections.

Hi all, new analyst who started in August. My project has gone okay so far. I’m living at home but unfortunately it affects my concentration a bit. I’ve saved some money and am debating moving out. My fear is that I won’t have good job security in these times and who knows when I could get fired. Is it worth taking a lease with these fears? Fiscally, I have about 15k cash, 15k in investments. Manager pulls me onto a proj with a role description I’m excited about because it’s something I’m interested in and have a passion for. The day I start he puts me in a PMO role and when I say this isn’t what I signed up for he says yeah client needs shift sometimes. I patiently stay on for a couple months then when another engagement opens up I ask to be released and he oks it but then wrecks my scatter plot. How is this even legal? Just joined a new consulting firm (after being laid off from the last one due to “poor performance”), and I’m being staffed conditionally on my first project. Manager has so far has given me pretty light / easy PMO work and asked me to make a few slides here and there, but generally it’s work below the level I was hired for. I’m in the post-MBA role, so want to make sure I’m meeting those expectations early on. Any advice on how to go about this and get more responsibility?

asking for a friend : he was laid off from one of the big 4 2 years back. Recently he saw another job opening in the same big 4 but with different service line within the same practice he was with before. He applied again through referral and has a recruiter call. Will it be easier for him to be upfront with the recruiter about past lay-off ? In these 2 years he has gained much more experience and client accolades. Hey all- I recently got laid off as an analyst due to large COVID cuts. Looking to make ends meet. Was supporting deal leads plan and manage projects (financials, resource mngmt, etc) and relationship mngmt between firm leadership and IT startups as well - both work I loved. Since I had <1 YOE in consulting (recent PSU grad), looking to get advice on how to move forward. Have ~1 YOE PM work in FS/healthcare tech prior to A. Friends tell me to get SCRUM certs. Open to any advice and thoughts!

Realistically if you ever get a PIP, should you just quit immediately? My thinking is that you would want to discuss your employment. However, if you get fired for performance you cannot state that you are eligible for rehire which would be a red flag to your new employer. Wouldn’t quitting just mitigate that if you can swallow no severance?

Looking for advice on dealing with the shame of being layed off. I feel I was let go inspire of excellent performance and this keeps haunting me. By the way I joined a new firm immediately after the layoff however it still keeps bugging me 😔😔

Recently laid off from tax, trying to move into consulting and have an interview Friday. Aside from the case, what's the most important thing to convey during the behavioral part of the interview? Should I focus on what drives my personal interests and how it aligns with the company, or should I focus moreso on project work and impact? I feel like my business development skills also aren't there.

I got laid off from ACN earlier this year. I accepted an offer and started at a boutique consulting firm exactly one month ago today. This morning, I got an email from Deloitte recruiting for the same position I’m in now, which is where I want to develop my career.

Part of me wants a break from the big consulting firms, but at the same time, going to a Big 4 would feel more at home to me. Is it worth entertaining the offer, or should I just stay away?

I screwed up something so badly on my first case - essentially leading to my CTL sending the client “draft” slides with wrong info on a bunch of things (though now they’re correct) - and, while my CTL seems okay with it and my manager understanding, I’m legitimately worried it’ll make it’s way to a Partner and thy’ll get me fired after just my first month. Am I overreacting?

I’m just a lowly associate. Can someone explain staffing and layoff models. Why’s my firm firing 10 people and then re hiring 8 people. Wouldn’t it make more sense to just reduce salary and attempt to retain people. Just trying to understand the logic

I understand that IBM layoffs people from time to time. For those who worked there at AP level or above under what circumstances does this usually happen and what are most factors play a role for the layoff in IBM

3) Non - flexibility to do any random work outside of area of specialization

Debating between two offers. Any suggestion? Hired by both companies for the same 5 years long project. Assuming the role and work content are exactly the same between the two offers: option 1) big four but pays 30k less than the second option, more prestige? 2) a famous staffing augmentation company hired for the project, usually layoff people once project is gone.
