I was fired at my previous firm and someone who also worked there just joined my team. It was a really awkward time and very toxic. I'm not sure how much this person knows about my sudden "departure". My current team doesn't know anything about my past and I prefer it stays that way. We're going to have to talk sometime, but I'm not sure what to say if they ask what happened. Thoughts? I'm a bad liar. By the way, I'm rocking at my current firm and it's true that some jobs are not the right fit!

My team PIPed me and laid me off. As my severance they gave me time to continue being employed and look for a job (with an end date) without taking me off projects. I already helped out during this period but now it’s almost over and they still keep asking for more ??? Why can’t I get severance and be left alone like a normal person. I know people say don’t burn bridges, but I am so done and don’t want to lift another finger for this trash team.

If you were to be laid off or fired today. How long do you think it take the average person to find a née job?

Those that were laid off, do you voluntarily inform your interviewers that you were laid off? If you did, how did that opportunity turn out?

If you’re being paid out severance over a period of time rather than lump sum, are you still considered to be employed by the company? What is your termination date if you’re still receiving payments?

I scheduled paycheck allocations to amount to the 401k contribution limit ($19.5k) but got laid off in July so now I'm only at ~$10k...is there anything else I can do to max out in this area? (Already doing a personal IRA, just wondering if there are other standard methods I don't know for this situation.)

Wondering about the people who lost jobs due to covid layoffs. Can you please share 1) if you found something comparable ?2) how long did it take ?

Signed with a boutique firm (~ 70 ppl) and they’re asking me to come in a month prior to my start date for a week long IN PERSON training (paid).

Then I find out an old colleague of mine who was fired for incompetence is the only other person at that training.

I’m having major doubts about this firm now, any tips on what to do? I’ve already resigned

I work for a small boutique firm with ABYSMAL and TOXIC culture. The CEO has a habit of firing anyone who questions/disobeys him (he fired 40+ consultants since concis started)

I had a mentor tell me that when job searching it doesn’t matter to change your position/end date on LinkedIn until you start your new position if furloughed/laid off but have correct dates in your resume. I’m skeptical about this, but want to hear thoughts?

For those companies / roles with unlimited pto, how does a payout work if you leave and /or are laid off? Receive nothing or some set amount?

Laid off around 3 months ago due to COVID from a global consulting firm as an analyst and having a hard time pivoting back into consulting. I had <1 YOE but still have a great relationship with my previous managers. I worked in project sales support/project management roles. Is it the timing or is there something else I can do (ie study for certs)? I enjoyed the work and varied project culture of consulting.

As someone also recently laid off I have decided to take time off and invest locally. I am purchasing the equipment to manufacture N95 masks with pkg’ing. AmazonSeller account is already up but I could use a few more hands and $. Anyone interested? Serve a more meaningful client for a while?

Which firm treated their the worst this year? (Bonuses, layoffs, etc)

I moved internally and my previous mgr gave negative feedback. Said deliverables needed to be redone, didn't finish tasks, was argumentative, etc. That was not the case. My current mgr and colleagues gave positive feedback. Current mgr said escalation to previous mgr and HR was an option. Is it worthwhile to escalate though? How much weight does the previous mgr's feedback have? Worried this would impact any layoff decisions either way.

Why shouldn’t same standards apply if you threaten to resign - irrespective of your race or gender or the type of research you do. Pretty sure I’d get fired if I used “threaten to resign” as my mode to get something

Need to vent..Started a new role after being laid off this summer. Grateful for a job and a very desirable industry, but annoyed that I didn’t have any leverage to negotiate, so my salary is much lower than before (and role isn’t great either). I want to switch internally but don’t know if I can wait a year. Can’t shake the feeling of wanting to get back to where I was but on the other hand feel slimy for continuing to interview and ashamed at the prospect of being a job hopper. Any advice?

What happens when a project goes south and becomes illegal? What should I do about this and who should I tell? They say I’ll get fired or hurt if I tell anyone and am worried for the safety of the team and others.

Accenture HR: When a prospective employer runs a background check, does HR tell them reason for leaving (quit, fired, etc.) or just dates of employment?
Was fired in September and wondering if I am required to tell them (upon asking why there’s a gap) if I was fired or just that I decided to leave.

Honestly, it makes me so happy to see people in my network finding new jobs during the pandemic after being laid off or furloughed for months. Seeing plenty of LinkedIn job updates the past few weeks 🙌🏽

Is anyone just petrified of making a mistake all the time? I only started working in August but I always have fear in the back of my mind that the work steam I’m on will have a mishap or be technically incorrect and then I’ll get like rolled off or fired or something.

Need help. Got laid off earlier and currently m on H1B. So have limited days to find the another gig.
I have got another job offer but the recruiter is low balling me knowing the situation. It's 20%cut from the last salary. With this offer it's like I will be starting my career all over again.
I do have other interviews in pipeline but nothing sureshot and moreover holidays are coming, so process is getting slow.

I don’t belong in my job. I didn’t mind it when I joined in January and was interacting but as we’ve been work from home longer, the less motivation I have. I don’t enjoy the work but I’ve gotten unlucky with my teams too, and can’t remember the last time my manager praised me without a critique. Maybe I’m just bad at my job. At this point I just am doing the bare minimum to not get fired. What do I do? Should I look for a job that I actually would enjoy doing or stick it out?

Need some thoughts. (Shows analyst on FB, but I've since been promoted). Basically I have had all amazing reviews since at my firm. Currently on a project where I am feeling super burnt out and as a result im not taking initiative and therefore performing poorly. I believe my next review will be quite poor. Does anyone have any advice on managing this / perspectives I should have? I am pretty worried that I will get fired and if that happens idek what I would do.

Found out that I’ll be laid off come 2021. I’ve been interviewing quite a lot recently, but what happens if I don’t find a job by February, my new employer sees my resume as currently working, and checks with my current employer on my resume, and finds out that I’ve been laid off?

Can I be fired for refusing to travel right now? Don’t want to due to covid risk. Raised this concern but was told I might just have to anyways. Can they fire me if I just don’t go? I’ve said very clearly I will not go, and don’t think they’re going to accept that answer.

How badly do you have to screw up at a big 4 as a manager to be fired? I've heard of pips at staff/senior level. Would you get put on one at a manager level first or just get fired?

Got laid off three months ago from Strategy, and found and starting a new job in two weeks with 15% higher pay! Thought it was going to take me more than half a year and I would go broke by then. Just wanted to share a success story so those who got laid off can feel some hope!

How does background check work? I omit a less than 2 months experience (was fired due to conflict with the boss) in my cv. Should I fill this info in the background check form too? Is it lying if I don’t reveal it? But if I reveal will I be possible to lose the offer?
