If I need Friday 4-5pm to go to a doctor's appointment, do I need to set a meeting invite to my manager in order not to be fired?

I need help: In consulting interviews, is it a death sentence to have been part of the COVID-related layoffs at a Big 4 strategy arm?

I have now been rejected from two other T2 strategy firms, and apparently the feedback is that “I have great experience” but they “are not moving forward with my candidacy”.

I’m getting beaten down here. I have 10 years consulting experience, 7 at health plans, 5 in strategy, and 3 as a manager. I know my industry, function, and story.

What am I missing?

Hi fellow 🐠, Any tax specialists here willing to give me some advice please? I just wanted to ask if I should file my IT Returns as a Resident or a Non resident (of the US) if I was employed until May by my US employer, with severance paid out until October but hadn’t set foot in the US all of last year (as I had been out of the country on medical leave since Nov ‘19) when the pandemic hit and prevented travel. I was laid off in November 2020 and am still looking for a new opportunity. My background is in pmo, consulting, strategy and ops (8 years of experience). I’m open though. How to can produce good work under stress? Yesterday, I screwed up on my deck coz I didn’t read the email probably when I was too stressed out. It would have been better if I was more calm. I am so afraid that I am going to get fired.

Upon my exit mid last year, and immediate departure from the US, my employer didn’t update Payroll address / it got missed out. My severance was paid out till Nov. My W-2 shows my old US address, and Payroll says it doesn’t matter that the address shown is a US one! How am I supposed to file taxes as a non resident when the address is wrong? Have they messed up and should they be reissuing a new W-2 or shouldn’t I care? If someone knows the answer, please advise.

I was pulled into a meeting to essentially give my opinion on my supervisor’s performance. It sounds like they’re about to get fired. Do I give them a heads up? If it were me, I would want to know, but if it gets out I said something I don’t want it to burn any bridges with upper leadership...

How bad were the Deloitte COVID layoffs? I’ve seen things mentioned in this bowl, but know that people often exaggerate. I’m interviewing with D right now, but am not sure I’d want to join if they really are very layoff-happy.

If you are given a severance from an employer, how should that be taxed? My understanding was not as a regular wage.

Just got promoted to SM. I worked my ass off for this and am very proud. At the same time, my daily life is exactly the same - my role won’t change and I can’t celebrate because of COVID. Idiot question- but if employment is at-will both sides, why do firms have to (or choose to) pay out severance?

Working in a new industry job for a moth now and they are doing layoffs this week, about 300 total ppl. Large company with 15k+ global employees. Obviously I have not been adding much value this quickly just training and getting to know the team. Making just under 100k if it matters, lower level tech position. How concerned should I be? I’m so anxious about it

Anyone else get annoyed by these two things:
At the conclusion of a town hall on Teams every idiot and their mother thanking the presenters in the meeting chat. Each of these people should be on a layoff short list for blowing up my notifications (yes I know I can mute the meeting).
After a meeting is running over the scheduled time people commenting in chat they have to leave for another meeting, just go no one cares.

Need advice and pep talk because I’m certain I have chronic imposter syndrome :( Background on me, I have about 6 years of work experience post college but have gone through many companies because of layoffs and/or reorgs. With that, I’ve bounced a lot with different industries and have done different roles for a year max. Shall I disclose reason for leaving a firm during my initial call with a recruiter from said firm, if I was laid off? Are they privy to that information. Ironically being recruited by that same firm

I have a meeting with my HR lead on Friday regarding my termination.

What questions should I ask? This is what I have so far... severance pay, health insurance benefits, PTO payout, other roles at the company, and my 401k vesting period.

Anything else I should ask/bring up? 

Has anyone been fired/terminated for expense related issues or along those lines? Does termination show up on your background check or impact you getting your next job? At a Big 4 firm

I was unfortunately notified that I am going to be laid off. I get two months of severance.

I’m pretty emotional as this was kind of out of nowhere. Does anybody have any tricks to deal with something like this?

Financially it couldn’t come at a worse time as my wife is due with our second child in six months. 

Its been a roller coaster of emotions but I’m confident I’ll get through this.

If a manager told you they were going to do everything they could to get you fired next round of performance reviews because he doesn’t like you, How would you handle this? Reporting to HR will probably just get me fired sooner. Should I quit and find a new job? I like working here. Do I tough it out and hope it was a verbal slip.?
