I feel like Deloitte is getting real slimey. Putting more than the typical number of staff on PIPs, to give themselves the opportunity to fire people for cause in a month or two without severance or anything.

Laid off from a boutique in SF after a year. Had to move home, no savings, and student loans up the wazoo. I don’t know when I’ll be employed next. Any tips for getting through this dark time?

Is Accenture pushing out start dates? I am supposed to join in a couple of weeks. Haven’t heard about it from the recruiter but seeing news about layoffs.

I think I am going to have a nervous breakdown sometime soon. My closest friends and collegues are getting laid off; I am safe for now but it seems am counting days. I was supposed to move to another country but stuck due to the pandemic. Living alone far from family and can't meet friends. And to too this all I can't help but feel saddled by this 'world sadness'.. the number of Covid deaths, the racial issues, the grim economic future.

Anyone out there feeling like this? How are you coping?

Layoffs are good for firms. It keeps the top-performers, aligns reality with company’s expectations, and as a result, brings better work.

People always say sue the company or owner. Is it that easy to sue someone? Especially around employment when people are getting laid off due to Covid. I think Deloitte or any big consulting firm it’s not easy to sue them, they are well protected

International student and Deloitte C here who was laid off recently. Given the circumstances (COVID, my visa status, Trump’s new executive order), I need to find a new job ASAP or I risk being uprooted from a country I’ve invested so much into. I graduated with a degree in civil engineering, co-founded a social impact startup at 20 and worked for ~2 years in Deloitte. Ideally looking to pivot to something more strategy based but any and all leads will be greatly appreciated at this point!

I have been in consulting for a while and thinking about switching for another role. I have been very disappointed with the recent layoffs. Leadership only seem to care about their numbers. Its not worth putting up with politics and incompetent leadership. I would rather take my talent and hard-work somewhere else. The current consulting model only seem to favor those who play politics or get lucky to be part of a good leadership circle. What are your thoughts?

How do you guys see the Big4 shaping this current year? Just got an offer to work in Investment Research outside. However, I ideally want to do strategy. But I’m scared that if I stay at the Big4, I could get laid off or my salary won’t increase (up for promotion this year).

If I post something political and get fired, would I still get unemployment?

If we have a prolonged recession because COVID lingers much longer than we had hoped, won’t the consulting be kind of fucked for the next 1-2 years? Like no travel benefits whatsoever, long hours, no learning from being at client, limited project opportunities for most industries, always worrying about utilization, layoffs, etc.

How much severance pay is the norm? Just laid off and want to compare

Younger fish with no dependents who’ve been laid off, are you paying for COBRA benefits? Healthy 26 y/o and can’t imagine paying $600 per month for crummy coverage while unemployed..

Took a new job only because I was laid off and desperate to find something, but it’s definitely not what I’m looking to do. Would it look bad if I left early (been about a month)? Should I include my current job on my resume or mention it if I interview?

Got laid off mid April and just accepted an offer at Deloitte. I’ve had so much anxiety over trying to find a job during this pandemic and I’m glad to put my mind at ease!

Would love advice on how to acclimate and adjust back to work when I haven’t worked for almost 9 months! At Deloitte for 6 years then moved to industry for 1 year. Got laid off in October last year due to a reorg and revenue loss. I took time to travel and relax then resumed the job hunt in late-Jan, then COVID happened. Landed a great new role in industry which I will start in 2 weeks. I struggle w/ imposter syndrome and am a bit nervous. I’ll be WFH for the rest of the year as well.

Is it true that Guidehouse has not had any COVID layoffs?

I am 30 and just got promoted to Senior manager. I think I am doing well but I feel I am driven more by pessimism, imposter syndrome, and fear of getting fired as opposed to a positive mindset and the desire to thrive in my career. I feel like I am suffering from some sort of a mental issue but wanted to throw it out here and get some advice to deal with this from the fishbowl fam as opposed to going to therapy. Does PWC plan to have any layoffs? Is it true there no layoffs during the housing recession 2008-2010?

Anyone been in a situation where you know you’re getting laid off and you resign first? Is there any chance the firm does not accept your resignation and decides to lay you off instead?
I’m debating how late to push my resignation to maximize my income, but don’t want to be laid off first bc the company that hired me could see that in my background check.

What are the secrets to longevity and not being perceived as too old to be hireable later in life? I’ve seen a lot of people get fired in their late 50’s at my bank and struggle to find positions again. Rational or not, this terrifies me (modeling planning to work to 65 if possible, though 27 now). It seems like ageism isn’t just real but tacitly accepted.

Has anyone thought about getting an lawyer due to a layoff?

How are you parents of infants (under 1yo) managing both working from home and taking care of the baby with no child care/help? Feel like both spouse and I are falling behind in our jobs, and worried about either or both of us being laid off!
