The only good thing about a PMP is that it’s a pretty accurate signal if I will like you since I’ve never met anyone I like that has “PMP” in their signature.

Agreed. Agile may be a better option, but still certainly not needed for consulting.
The PMP is good if you’re trying to get into the federal space, though
This is the real answer. TONS of federal contracts require PMP at certain level, if you’re in the federal space without one you are limiting your options severely
Agreed, a lot of effort for something that won’t add much value to your career unless you really need it for a particular client engagement (Gov for example). It’s an overly bloated for what you’ll ever need day to day.

We basically require it at IBM, which is definitely not a good thing lol
All that being said, I'm a PMP here and it has helped get a few interviews but really not useful at all and wouldn't recommend
