For what it’s worth, its certainly possible to do keto long term. I’ve been mostly keto since 2014, flexing during vacations and some meals here and there.
My chronic heartburn is gone, I love not needing breakfast and otherwise being able to go hours without food and hunger, I love steak, I’ve aged much better than peers (24 to 29 now), and my physical fitness keeps getting better
It’s much easier than you think staying with a keto lifestyle once you adapt. I knew I had overeaten carbs (and let’s face it, over drunk carbs) during the break when my morning ketones were very low. But since going back on plan I’m back to normal (took 2-3 days to rid my body of the accumulation) and feeling better than ever before. Don’t box yourself into a long or short term approach. Try it and see how it goes.
Nope, we’re here!
Totally this. It’s not about orthorexic purity, but how you improve your health and how you feel.
Nice! How long did/does everyone target to stay in ketosis? I know I can’t do it forever but what is a good goal?
No target timeline for me either. I did keto for about 6-8 weeks over the summer of 2018 and loved it. A health issue came up that derailed me... then had a slew of stressful engagements and health issues where I gained a lot of weight back. Weighed the most I’ve ever weighed in my life at the beginning of this year. 😕 but I’m mentally in a place to get back on the wagon with keto and exercise!
I’ve now finished week 2 of keto! Doing pretty well, few difficult team dinners but I have to be ok with that. Lost 9 pounds in the first week and I’ll check back in tomorrow!
💃🏼 I’m here!
Anyone have random friends that every so often come pick your brain on low carb because they are amazed you “still do a diet.” No, “low insulin is a lifestyle choice, I just feel better.” It has also made me much more compassionate toward everyone’s metabolic journey. Healthy and unhealthy comes in many shapes and sizes. Getting your health data dialed in takes time.

That’s helpful advice K1 - Do you experience keto flu symptoms when you come in and out or do you feel more adaptable now?
No, but make sure you keep on top of your electrolytes. Particularly potassium, sodium and magnesium.
After salts (look up Phinney videos on it), only next non- Whole Foods advice. Vitamin D3/ K2, and a good amount of fish or Fish Oil. I target myself at 4400mg of EPA/DHA a day min and three grams of Krill Oil, because I am terrible at getting enough fish in my diet. (Omega 3 unregulate fat burning enzymes and help any residual liver sluggishness for being over- carbed. And help balance inflammation for my EoE. But that is me. )
I recommend using 23andme raw file thru Rhonda Patrick’s reports it is a good place to start. Many Avocados and pastured eggs to all in the new year.
Do people have a body fat % goal they target?
