First trimester pregnant and not feeling great- I’m a junior who just lateraled. I get to the office later/start working later, find myself naturally slower, generally uninterested, and demotivated. I’m so exhausted- I feel like my head will explode by only 4 pm. Does anyone have a similar experience? What were your typical billable days during this time? Did anyone make comments about you not pulling your weight? Any other insights? Thanks!

I had to take a one hour nap at 3pm during first trimester. Otherwise my brain hit oatmeal phase. Lots of stupid mistakes happened during oatmeal phase. I was lucky enough to have WFH, and have been working at the same firm for a few years.
Still worked late and managed to crank out 9-11 hour days during most of first tri. Not ideal.

I’m now in my second trimester and having similar issues. I tend to leave the office on the earlier side around 5 pm and usually log back into work after I’ve gotten a chance to eat something and relax for a little bit. Now that people know I’m pregnant they don’t seem to mind but I’m open and honest about it to those I work with. You have to do what’s best for you and your health. I ended up telling people I work with that I was pregnant on the earlier side, around 10 weeks, because I was so sick and tired all of the time and didn’t want them to get annoyed with me. I also recently lateraled about 6 months ago so I didn’t have that much of a proven track record with these people either. They’ve been pretty understanding and nice tbh.

The one and only time I cried in front of a partner was when I was in my first trimester. And it wasn't even because of him! I'd gotten an email that we were back in full gear on an awful case and couldn't hold back the tears. My issue was less the being tired and more the never ending nausea. Pregnancy is hard. Best of luck to you!

My firm’s IT (especially system saving and file locating function) is so bad 😐😞 and they keep doing updates no one asked them for just to mess with the stuff we already got a hang of without doing anything about the issues we actually need fixed. Anyone else in a similar boat? Do you bill the client for the time it takes to fix the IT issue (or IT inefficiency generally, like time taken to find a file in a convoluted system)? Or is that supposed to be our non-billable time?

It seems rude when she says it, and she follows it up with “I say that because I love you” which i feel is so unprofessional all around. Anyone have guidance on how to handle this?

Question: do y’all really love this stuff and understand it? Or are you all on the “fake it til you make it” wave? I ask because I’m in a specialty group under the Corporate umbrella and many of the partners and some senior associates are extremely smart and clearly enjoy this stuff. Some even do “night time reading” to catch up on the recent laws. I, on the other hand, cannot wrap my head around it most of the time and would rather not waste energy doing it. Is it just me? What do i do? Quit?
