This is a really hard question. The anti-depressants all have side effects, and I have been on most of them, including the tricyclics. You have a couple of choices. You can keep on trying different ones until you find one that works with minimal side effects for more longer than 6months, you can get tested to see how your body chemistry metabolizes different psychoactive compounds, you could add lithium, which potentiates anti-depressants, or you can try ECT. I would add that if you have bipolar depression, anti-depressants are usually not used. I have been around this track for 30 years, so I know how you feel
Cymbalta
I was on Cymbalta for a long time. At high doses. My shrink added Adderall, which put me to sleep ( go figure). The two put me into a mixed state. I’m bipolar, which is why I mentioned anti-depressants as not being a good idea for bipolar people. My only point is that what works for one does not work for all
I’ve heard that each person may experience different side effects to the same prescription. I’ve been on Lexapro which really improved my mood (I had depression) but weight gain was crazy.
Never take topamax and cymbalta at same time. Can cause severe mania
^ she/he is right. Some anti depressants can make you tired, but cymbalta won’t do that (it’s an snri). Wellbutrin is it’s own class of medication. Look up SNRI vs. SSRI. Just talk to your doctor but also do your research.
Cymbalta morning Wellbutrin afternoon plus klonapin for anxiety. . Did it for six months. Worked well.
Been on Wellbutrin for 10 years. Had to add Klonopin for anxiety 6 years ago, and a small dose of seroquel to sleep. Took about 2 years to get the right mix. I tried a few other things over the years but they all made me to groggy. What you have to remember is that the meds aren’t going to make you happy, they are just going to take the edge off so you can function
Oh, and for me it’s hereditary. My son is on Lexapro but it is the second Med try for him. Everyone is different
